Need advice on enlarging hole for co-linear pipe for gas fireplac
Comments (0)I want to convert my wood burning fireplace into a gas fireplace. The problem I have is my chimney goes up about 4ft via masonry brick with slotted vents then angles to a pipe going through the roof. Problem I have is the two 3 inch co-linear pipe will not fit through the masonry brick slots shown in the pic attached. Somehow I have to enlarge the slots to accommodate the co-linear pipe for the gas fireplace. Any ideas/recommendations? DW...See Morehelp with understanding long linear hvac ceiling vents
Comments (6)These are used a lot in commercial applications. Our new build is not very large so rather than go with something oversized, I found some in standard a/c duct sizes. They are called linear slot diffusers. Here is a link to a 48" from this company the company that I hot the standard size from: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XQ8JL9V/ref=asc_df_B06XQ8JL9V5397839/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B06XQ8JL9V&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198099432697&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9784463738137180546&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031020&hvtargid=pla-367393111903...See MoreWhat are these slots in the stainless?
Comments (15)I go with the shelf idea. Maybe the back of the shelf had parts on it that you could easily drop into those large openings, and the narrowed part of the groves would hold and secure it. It would also be easy to remove the shelf for cleaning since I imagine it would get greasy on the bottom. Push up and pull out kind of thing....See Morebetter looking ceiling ac registers
Comments (11)No, I'm the idjit. I need to get out more! Those are cool looking, for sure. What about this as an alternative? https://texasbuildmart.com/collections/standard-linear-slot-diffusers/products/6x6-standard Yes, you got it. The linear cover is almost for sure the return. Is not unusual for a house to have only one return. Depends on the size of the home, the floorplan, the location, how many levels... My mom's house was a small ranch house in the southwest US with only one return. I have a large split level in the Great Lakes region & have return air grilles in all rooms except the bathrooms. Uppermost level, each room has two returns, floor and ceiling level. I am pretty much of the same mind as Patricia. Plain Jane ones are fine with me. Vents just are; I mostly see past them. OTOH, if I had or was building an uber modern space...like having non-cased door & window openings, then upscaling the vents & returns would been much more of a priority....See Moreklem1
