How to Modernize Kitchen Without Changing Countertops or Floors?
Comments (44)You have a really nice kitchen. Would not go bright white with your cabinets. You could paint that top cabinet trim the same white as the ceiling. If you paint the cabinets, consider a pastel color instead of white or off white. Then, unless you prefer the darker island base cabinet, paint it a bold shade of the same pastel color your choose for your cabinets. Make sure the new hardware does not require new holes for the handles and/or does not let the old holes show. You might choose very plain straight bars for the handles. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/635922409866404596/ Raising the pendant lights when you change them would be well worth considering. If you can find some with your favorite colors, consider those. You might even consider a single rectangle fixture instead of two single pendants. If you keep the darker island base cabinet, you might consider something similar to this: https://www.wayfair.com/Latitude-Run--Shiv-5-Light-Kitchen-Island-Linear-Pendant-B14256-L6087-K~W002051852.html?refid=GX380614830877-W002051852&device=c&ptid=821487175416&network=g&targetid=pla-821487175416&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=80498964&fdid=1817&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI76ma9-i25wIVxICfCh3jVAUDEAQYAyABEgJxUfD_BwE Like the Tiffany glass https://www.amazon.com/Tiffany-Ceiling-Pendant-Restaurant-Lighting/dp/B07V2KZZF8 While some rectangle lights are intended for over a pool table, that they have color makes them worth considering. If you're great sports fans, you may find one i n your favorite teams colors. This one could go with the off white/cream cabinets you now have https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/millwood-pines-dake-3-light-pool-table-linear-pendant-with-wrought-iron-accents-w001852540.html?categoryid=215423&placement=1&slot=0&sponsoredid=8deacbfefb33b623861a7794c12045e31da27016d110d6824ebc0aac93167a68&_txid=I%2FWEwl441eElLwvc1qGpAg%3D%3D&isB2b=0 Let us know how your project turns out....See MoreAny ideas for a living room update?
Comments (24)The color is lighter but it's still too big and puffy. My 2 cents, and story from childhood: Both my grandmas lived within 3 miles of us and regularly hosted large family gatherings (30-50 of us). Neither had giant sectionals where all could have a puffy seat, just a regular sofa and a couple of upholstered chairs. We sat where we could, used lots of folding chairs and tables for meals and to play cards. Kids were in and out of the house playing. Looking back, the lack of seating was never a problem because being together was key. I will add, I've been married almost 50 years, have raised two sons, decorated always around their needs and likes. Now, my home is filled with my style and lots of memories. My hubby, bless him, has learned that as long as it is comfy and fits him, the decor is all my choice! Good luck with your decor reform!...See MoreAny ideas on how to update?!?!
Comments (12)You could do any combination of what is suggested above. Painting all one, lighter tone would give the most contemporary feel. However, be careful to make sure whatever you do in the house is consistent throughout. For example, are those beams and corbels repeated in other rooms? Also, if you leave the ceiling and/or beams darker, I would definitely get a round rug in there. Right now, the ceiling feels very weighty over the table. A rust-colored rug to mirror the ceiling would be great. I would change out the chandelier for something simpler. I'd like to see something that mimics the beam pattern. Finally, keep in mind that this is beautiful and unique. I would think long and hard before I'd paint the beams....See MoreHow to lighten/update kitchen without changing cabinets or counters!
Comments (13)First thing…you need more recessed lighting, with brighter LED bulbs. Also, those pendants are strictly down lights, with a narrow stream of light.. Find pendants that provide both uplighting, and downlighting…with a broader beam…something either open on top, or glass. Secondly, I have no problem with the black counters. After all, I have soapstone in my wood kitchen. However, the black backsplash is a major problem. If you would change that out for a light colored tile, you’d see a huge difference in the feel of the kitchen. Perhaps repaint the dark grey bar area in a similar shade of the new backsplash. Here’s my kitchen…wood cabs, soapstone, celadon green backspash, and lots of lighting…including two halophane glass semi-flush pendants. You’ll have to enlarge the first pic, to see the semi-flush fixture. Do you have undecabinet lights? If not, think about getting them…they make a huge difference in a kitchen’s brightness. You can see in the pics above, mine are on....See Morelittlebug Zone 5 Missouri
