Help! Rhododendron, rootstock sprouting with striped bark?

i have a Mount Saint Helens rhododendron that I adore. they are next to impossible to find. it was in way too much shade, and last year's drought increased its stress. I moved it to a much better location last fall. It is now starting to recover after all the good rain we've had. Today I was pruning the dead wood and noticed a long new branch coming from the base that is clearly a different species. Before I cut it, does anybody have any idea what it could be? I've never seen a rhododendron or azalea with striped bark. I did not realize rhododendrons were grafted. The first two pictures are the sport (the first also has a MSH leaf) and the last is the true leaves of MSH, which are clearly much shorter, beside the larger sport leaves.
