Thanks for your help--I'm not sure if it has sap or not. Which Euphorbia species in Illinois (it's not growing in a garden) have leaves narrow like this and > 6'' long? I can't seem to find any.

linda, after you've typed your italics sentence, then type this combination and that will turn the italics off. :-) marys1000, I apologize, I didn't read all of your post because it was very long and rather complicated and I don't have enough patience for that unless it's one of my kids. :\-( We sold our house in SoCal last fall in a very difficult market. Prices were dropping so fast it was unreal and we had to sell \- husband had transferred out of state. So we were in a similar situation to you. We were choosing between the Realtor who we'd used to buy the house 4 years previously but hardly ever worked in our part of the county, or a local guy who lived in the area, but we didn't know him. They both came and made good presentations to us. They both suggested the same price range for listing. We could have saved money by going with the local firm but decided to go with our original guy because his marketing plan was so much better, we thought. We didn't want to do open houses, we wanted a lot of internet exposure, and we knew he would work hard for us and be there to the end to make the deal close. Our house sold at a time when most others in the area didn't. But you never really know. It's a gamble, like much of life. You need the right buyer at the right time. Which of the options are YOU most comfortable with? The one thing I would really think about is what happens after you leave, if the property hasn't sold? Who will put the most time and effort into getting people inside the house to see it? Will one of them help you find people to maintain the yard and surrounding areas when you're not there to run things? Unless you're in a really hot market, I think it's likely that the house will sell after you're gone, since it's just 2 months away. So I would really think about that \- who will do the best job after you leave? Good luck \- keep us posted.

There's over 700 species of Pandanus. Most of the common variegated ones are varieties of P. tectorius although they are usually sold under other names, like P. sanderi, P. baptisii, P. veitchii. Those are synonyms of P. tectorius, one of the most widespread species. Prop or stilt roots are important to P. tectorius because they grow mainly along the shoreline subject to a lot of wind and shifting sand. Some of the variegated forms grow dwarfed but some grow quite large. Cold climate and lack of direct sun would be limiting factors. P. amaryllifolius has a plain green colour, never seen or heard of a variegated one. The fragrance isn't strong but I've never used it in cooking. Maybe the heating process brings something out of it that's not so noticeable in the fresh leaf. Other Pandanus leaves I've crushed haven't had any hint of fragrance in them.

Paulie, I think you’ve definitely watered too much. You probably only needed to water maybe once a week with the size of your babies and the pot size. The new soil will hold moisture longer then your gritty mix and should only be watered when you notice the soil has almost dried out....this is important even with baby seedlings. The babies need time to grow more roots and get fatter before they will have a higher water need...also always better to water in the mornings rather then the evening. I think some of your babies have probably lost their little roots from being wet all the time, and you may lose some of them. They would have done better if they had been bigger (abit thicker then a pencil) before transplanting.....Unfortunately this is part of how we all learn what the needs of our adeniums babies are. This is what I would do now - let the soil dry out and then mist the top of the soil with a spray bottle, mist again when the top is almost dry.....feel the soil with your finger before misting again. Do not wet the soil all the way through. I would then place them in a mini greenhouse to keep them warm and humid, while they are trying to grow new roots....mist the top of soil as needed. Here’s a few photos I found on the internet for examples of diy mini greenhouses. The last photo is the type of mini greenhouse we have used. We just lift the lid once a day to refresh the air. Still give them a little bit of sun, but not too much. I hope this helps and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you :)
