8 foot entry door help?

For an 8 foot front entry door should I be using 19-24 inch lights? I want to do sconces like shown below. I have posted picture of my door, house and we live at the beach. Thanks!

    If you live at the beach get brass fixtures, they can still be black I dont care how expensive Hinkley is, they will still corrode in salt air. ( worked at a lighting store in OC for years)
