Scented 'Tickled Pink' Dianthus - divide it?
Comments (5)I only ever bought one potted perennial that wouldn't absorb water even sitting in a bucket of it. Unfortunately, I didn't question what it was growing in and the plant died. When I took the dead plant out of the gallon pot, the dirt I'd filled in around it was moist but the root ball and growing medium around the roots were bone dry. I've since decided it was potted in nothing more than peat moss. Now whenever I buy a potted perennial, first thing I check is whether or not it soaks up water through the bottom of the pot. If it were me, I'd take that dianthus out of the pot, tease the roots loose and either pot it up again in good potting mix or else plant it but not with whatever it's growing in that won't absorb water....See MoreMaster Bath Only Half Done. Comments (3)I'd certainly stay away from anything (paint or counter top) that has even a HINT of pink in an undertone! the walls sometimes read pinkish on my screen. viewing the wall behind the vanity (reflection in mirror) does not read pinkish. It isn't unusual that the colors change with the change of the lighting tho. the mirror - that's a personal decision I think. whichever you like. I have a big mirror over my sink that I want to change - but it's old, cheap and ugly - lol! and it's also trimmed out in some tacky cheap wood. yours looks very nice tho. the faucets, lighting metal all look great to me. have you thought of another color to go with the green? I like purple with green myself. I have a comforter that is green with purplish in it. It does depend on the purple tho. maybe you should take one of your towels to the paint store with you and pick up some paint chips to check IN the room (for light changes)? the vanity counter now looks fine to me. Are you changing because you have to (changing sinks) or want to? A solid surface or granite would go nicely in there - just be very aware of the color, tones and undertones in whatever you pick out. I wouldn't go with a specific color like green granite in case you get the chance to change the bdrm carpet and want to move away from green. you could go with a green in paint tho - that's easy enough to change out if you switch away from the green....See MorePink bacteria (serratia marcescens) on marble bath's grout
Comments (15)I have the exact same issue in my shower. I also have polished marble so I'm just at a total loss as to what to do. Our house is under a year old so I'm not really willing to take any chances on products. Though I'm considering the bleach pen if I can't find another option. I've tried just scrubbing wit a neutral ph marble cleaner but it's done nothing. :/ the only area affected is where the wall meets the shower floor. (Marble floor as well). So I'm thinking of having them come regrout....See MoreBath's Pink Dianthus
Comments (5)Update: First, I need to clarify that the dianthus was only 10" high, but the mat of foliage was over 30" across. After a wet winter, some of the foliage was brown and looked like it had been too wet at some point. This dianthus is evergreen for me and usually looks good all winter. Before a cool, rainy spell, I did as Mindshift suggested and I cut two plants back by 1/3 (from the outside of the mat of foliage). Now they were about 18" across. The third dianthus looked rather ragged and most of the stems just pulled completely away from the base of the plant, so there wasn't much left of the poor thing. I decided to mulch all three with a thin layer of decomposed granite. Now a bit more than a month later, the first two are healthy looking and blooming again. And the third mutilated one is putting on lots of new growth, and I think it will make it. On a side note, Bath's Pink dianthus is a lovely plant for me. I only water it in the heat of late summer, and when it flowers in early spring, it is a hairstreak butterfly magnet. Michelle...See Moredeanna in ME Barely zone 6a, more like 5b
