I spent some time this spring going to the home shows looking at all the brands available locally. There are a lot more garage door companies than I realized. I ended up getting a referral by someone at work to an installation company further away than I had been looking. They ended up being significantly less expensive than anyone else who quoted me. My doors are from Haas Door. They are insulated at R13 and are steel with a composite overlay to create the carriage look. Amazingly, they cost me $1350 each installed plus opener for an 8x9. Probably the only complaint about the doors is that they have single pane glass, which seemed odd for an insulated door, but the price really knocked my socks off so I am thrilled. Overhead door openers are Genie openers with overheads name stamped on them. If they are working leave them alone. The legacy models do have circuit board problems so I would recommend you plug the openers into one plug surge protectors, otherwise when they stop working replace them with a Sears or Liftmaster opener. Don't spend the money to fix them. To answer your question I would not install them in my house and do not recommend any one else installing them in theirs.

Milgard was a decent product in my opinion but having been purchased by MI (Metal Industries) that is out in my mind as a recommendation. Lincoln is not a quality product either (borderline awful). However, I am not that familiar with the many of the west coast offerings. What material are you looking for the windows to be made from as Milgard is aluminum or vinyl, Windsor Pinnacle is vinyl, Lincoln is wood or wood/alum clad? If your looking at vinyl I would look to Anlin for starters. I would need to do some more research for others that may be budget friendly. You mention narrow sightlines, but narrow sightlines and budget are not often mentioned in the same conversation unfortunately. And really never with a vinyl product. All aluminum and or steel are typically your narrow sightline options.

Be thoughtful of how wide your vehicles are if you’re planning on changing from a single door to two doubles (or adding a double) - often times you’ll have to pull the mirrors in on one side - we had to in a rental for our pickup truck and it was a PITA….
