I drink wine, so I would put several wine racks in either side of the lowest cubbies. I wouldn't get fancy about it -- in fact, I would want to make the room more of a mix of informal and welcoming and sophisticated -- so I'd put in a bunch of these or whatever else fits and doesn't break the bank and spend the savings on better wine. ;) Middle shelf above the double door cabinet I'd put in crystal canisters or European ceramic or tines filled with after dinner candies, rock sugar treats and cookies -- like, a lot of them Then I think I would simplify my life and put 3 framed artworks to cover the upper shelves, hanging them over the shelves so that some of the shelves were still visible. These come in big sizes , But I might stick with a dark old fashioned rug because of your light fixtures (which I like) and the cabinetry

is this a rental? I ask because that florescent light in the kitchen is horrible. why someone would go to all the trouble of redoing the kitchen and leaving that cheap light is beyond me. The kitchen is great looking! With a proper light fixture, I think the colors would look better. this light is inexpensive. It also gives you 4 bulbs. Bring in some LED 60W bulbs in the cool light temp (4000K) and the entire kitchen would light up! If you rent, ask your landlord if you buy the light, can it be switched. it's not a big deal to do it. very simple. If it's yours, ask a friend to help you. Then bring in a runner (say a 2.6" X 8' size) to go in front of the sink area color is up to you. everything is pretty neutral, so get something you like. Then bring in some wood cutting boards, some color w/pots or vases, maybe some plants (faux is fine) I would be tempted to paint that end wall a dark color and add some art or something or cutting boards, vintage kitchen things i think black would look good. this one is chalkboard paint, but a deep black w/some cool art, or do a medium gray and add colorful pictures since everything is very neutral. you could also put one of those magnetic knife holders on the wall. and art.

Move the armchair so it forms an L seating with the sofa and walk behind it going in and out the door. Place an area rug to define living room seating area, with a two foot border from the walls for foot traffic. Get an ottoman on legs to not hide the rug. Place a large tray on it for decorative items, coffee table books, drinks, etc. The tray can be removed to use the ottoman as a footstool when needed. A large piece of artwork behind the sofa. And yes, coordinating throw and throw pillows in colors pulled from the art. Get some smaller wall art for the rest of the walls. Interesting items with color and texture to catch the eye help a small space not seem so bare. In this neutral space any color will work.
