How to remove silicone residue from Taj Mahal Quartzite?

Our counter has been in place 3 days. We have some silicone residue and small remnants on our Taj Mahal Quartzite. It is polished but not yet sealed. What is safe to clean the silicone off with? (Note: this is not the silicone in the corners, more like smears beside and some remnants of silicone on countertop).

I know how I would remove the residue. Tell the installer it must be removed before he/she gets paid. Works wonders!

Well thats not going to help me at this point. They did remove alot but there are still some left. As a "pro" do you have any other suggestions?

I am back two years later with another stain:(. Someone left a tray with some gravy underneath that had Tumeric in it on my counter and it has left stains all over in different areas. My counter top is Taj Mahal Quartzite. I cook a lot and have never had an issue with any food stains prior to this. Unfortunately I think the tray sat for a few hours on the countertop and seeped in. Any recommendations that have been tried and tested? I used a poultice in the past for another stain made from dichotomous earth and 40 clear peroxide. But I do not know if it’s ok to use on an oil based Tumeric stain:(. Please help!

I had/have Taj Mahal in two kitchens and also have it outside as my outdoor kitchen counter and backsplash behind the grill. None of it sealed. The backsplash behind the grill gets grease and soot on it and I just clean it with Lysol kitchen cleaner that is good at removing grease. The only issue with the Taj Mahal piece behind the grill, which was a remnant, is that it has a fair amount of filler, which might not be as durable long term with the exposure to high heat from the grill.

If we had enough, we would use the counter material everywhere! As it is, we have enough material to do the countertops, backsplash for the bar, and 2 side panel (backsplashes?) to the edge of the cabinets. I was wondering if you have any advice how to handle the vertical edge of the quartzite 3cm (from the wall to the face of the side backsplash surface). The edge of the horizontal countertop will be 1/8" radius edge. Also, will the thicker side backsplash panels look strange on either side of the bar? Thank you!

It's probably a mineral inclusion. If it's a one-off spot on the slab, it might always look like there is a "mark" on it, but if there are hints or splotches of that bluish-green color elsewhere in the slab it might not bother you so much. That's up to you and how much it's going to bug you. Or, ask the fabricator if he can cut the stone in such a way that the area is excluded or in a spot on the counter where it won't be noticeable.

OK, then get them back to finish the job.

If you don't want to do that, then try this:

Coat the area with GranQuartz 413 granite sealer or Klean Strip caulk remover. Once this has softened the silicone carefully scrape it off.

But, try the solvent first on an area of the countertop not visible (under the countertop edge, for example) to make sure its does not discolor. It's unlikely, but possible.

For a scraper, use a single edge razor blade held nearly vertically to the surface. You are not trying to cut it off, you need to scrape it off. If a blade get dull there is a slight risk of scratching the surface. Throw it away and get a new blade.

Pure acetone, yes. No nail polish remover.

@StarCraft Custom Builders Quartzite is not the same as Quartz. Quartz is man made. Quartzite is natural.

I have been involved in the engineered stone business since its inception. I have used acetone on engineered stone for all that time without failure. Should you set a can of acetone on a puddle of acetone on an engineered stone top and leave it there, you may cause some damage, but acetone on a paper towel won't do a thing, Ever.

Furthermore, we're talking about the natural stone quartzite here, not engineered "quartz" stone. No way will acetone hurt quartzite.
