How to remove calcium water stains from granite?
Comments (11)I would never, ever, use vinegar on my expensive granite. It's acidic, not safe for granite, and there is no need to use it. If you find the damp Dobie pad doesn't work (but I think it will), there are alkaline cleaners available that are safe for granite, like Granite Gold. The cleaner must be alkaline in order not to etch the stone. Sophie, my water is just slightly hard. Not worthwhile to do a water treatment plan. It would be rare in my city for someone to have whole house water treatment plan to deal with some pesky white spots and mineral deposits that come off with just a bit of elbow grease. I understand that some regions have very hard water, but your recommendation needs to take into account degree....See MoreNeed to remove grease stain from granite
Comments (18)That should work. If it doesn't try a poultice of plaster of paris and acetone. Cover with plastic wrap with blue tape around it until it's dry. Cover at least an inch around larger than the stain. When it's dry, the stain should be better, if not completely gone. If it's working, do it again until resolved. Found this answer here at Houzz. Our granite was sealed when it was installed, but we found that it stained easily. We resealed with Tenax Pro Seal after pulling the stain out. We haven't had a problem since....See Morequartzite stains
Comments (3)I realize your post was basically 7 months ago so you have probably already sealed your counter top but in the off chance you have not, read these threads that talk about different products to get our organic stains (I think acetone is what is recommended in that case) and also, Dawn has something in it akin to grease in it that is a post-cleaning moisturizer that can cause cloudy-type stains in porous quartzite. https://forum.stonefabricatorsalliance.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26044&hilit=quartzite&start=50 https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5303790/removing-stain-from-quartzite https://www.houzz.com/discussions/4862644/white-macaubus-quartzite-stained?n=30 And then if and after you get the stain out, use Miracle Sealants Company 511 Impregnator Sealer... can be purchased on amazon or wherever online: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BC0E4HM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Perhaps it's too late to help you but maybe it can help someone else....See MoreQuartzite not adequately sealed?
Comments (13)Thanks everyone for your advice. There are other issues with the installation, like significant cosmetic defects on the stone surface, edge profiles and fissures. We asked Home Depot for a refund, since the first fabricator was incompetent and the second one they referred to us to told us they can’t help as their company is not licensed to work in NC where we live. Home Depot said they can’t give us a refund until they come extract the countertop from our home. However, they have no one to do this work! You can’t make this stuff up! It’s the worst customer experience we’ve ever had. We’ve experienced extremely poor customer service and follow-up from the contractor and the local Home Depot store in Blairsville, Georgia. We are going to file a claim with our credit card company, the BBB and Home Depot corporate, as we’re not confident Home Depot will follow through with the refund....See MoreAshwini Reddy
