Marmalade pages!

I tend to type up my most used recipes and keep them in page protectors, or my iPad with a screen guard. Prior, I used a clear book stand. My mother's Joy, however, falls open to the bread pages which are glazed with yeast dough, preserving her pencil notes, because she didn't make them as written...

The book I used the most when I lived in San Francisco was Cooking with Gourmet Grains, published by Stone-Buhr. I do not have my original copy, but I was able to replace it a few years ago, and so now all the pages are clean. Favorite recipes include Walnut Sour Cream Coffee Cake and Cherry Cream Crunch. I still use the pie crust recipe: one cup butter, one cup cottage cheese, and two cups flour. Page never got mucky because this recipe was so easy to remember.

My messiest cookbook is Joy of Cooking, and I think the messiest page might be for Bavarian Cream Pie.

Today I have my favorite recipes in Word documents, printed out and in page protectors, but most recipes I make from memory, even though I have printed copies of them. Most of the everyday recipes I make are either Mexican or Tex-Mex.

I have the Beard on Bread book and have not made a single recipe from it. I'll have to look at the biscuit recipe. I've used it mainly to compare recipes in other books and for the general text.

The page of my Betty Crocker cookbook that has pumpking pie filling with amounts for 3 different sizes of piecrust. I've been making it for over 35 years.

Mine is the pie crust page in my ancient BH&G book. It's a bit messed but mostly torn out with new little donut-shaped hole-binders. A lot of my more recent recipes are on large-print pages in plastic-sleeves in a binder.

I don't know what the book's called as the covers fell off years ago. My Mum gave it to me in about 1978 and so many of the pages are stuck together LOL There's one recipe for a cake with a caramel icing that is sooooo good. That one's very sticky.

How about photos? We could have a disgusting messy page competition. I'm impressed by people who actually type up and protect their recipes. But I do like to keep old ones for their associations. I have recipes in my mum's handwriting and other people's from my past or now dead. Or cut out of magazines with quaint old adverts on the back for products which no longer exist at ludicrously low prices. Some have pre decimal currency on or pre metric measurements. I just stick them onto sheets or into plastic wallets in a ring binder. Having a recipe on it has saved some interesting ephemera from the bin.

I agree, floral. I often think of my sister saying these old things contain our childhood - literally!

I’ve packed most of my cookbooks away in a box. My most used cookbooks were the Laura Secord Canadiana Cookbook, a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook that I mostly stuffed with handwritten recipes or wrote in the cover and The Joy of Cooking.

My favourite was the Laura Secord Cookbook.

I got my cookbooks as shower gifts when I got married in 1976.
