Tying into Existing Plumbing

Just wondering if this would be something reasonably accomplished.

I have a powder room with a pedestal sink on the garage wall. I am wondering if I could tie into that plumbing to get a sink in the garage. Our garage IS insulated & dry walled but not taped/mudded. There is an elevation difference, which might be the biggest issue connecting to the drain?

We also have a sillcock on the left garage wall, and just below/adjacent to that is another bathroom in the basement - maybe that would be another option for tying into?

Long story: I used to think dog wash stations were completely unnecessary and bougie. Now I have a dog who loves digging in mud and chasing rabbits into the woods and I'm giving multiple baths a week in our soaking tub, which is starting to get cumbersome. I'd prefer to get her clean before even coming in the house, and having the sink in the garage AT WAIST HEIGHT would be absolutely amazing.

1) Garage & Powder Room

Anything can be done ... all it takes is time and money.

Why not call a local plumbing company and get their opinion?

This looks straightforward, but prepare for sticker shock- plumbers are an in demand trade and charge as such!

your plumber can tell you exactly, as it will depend on exaclt how your house plumbing is layed out and how the frame is iin relation to the direction you wish to go. the water lines can go up and over, aroudn, down, or sideways, they really don't matter other than pressure loss due to extended runs. your DRAIN will have to go from below. it may be able to come fromthe existing bath, but it may not. it may have to run all the way back to the main drain line in the basement/slab/crawlspace of the house. the only way to find out is to get a pro in there to give you an idea. and do not hire a handyman who does plumbing, hire a REAL plumber! PS, until you know for sure i would think about holding off on the new hardwood. it may be possible to do it all thru the ceiling, but then again it may not. again this all depends on how YOUR house is layed out.

There are businesses that “trace the plumbing lines”. I recommend hiring one of them. Your need is very common in areas with similar construction. If this is not DIY, I recommend allowing the business you hire to do the work hire the subcontractors.

Joseph thank you for the help! one more question because there seems to be some conflicting information on the use of the wye+1/8. The toilet location is directly over the horizontal line. is the following orientation of the wye+1/8 acceptable or will it cause clogging? The document you shared shows all of the wyes leading to the WC's on their sides.

@chispa yes, I'm aware that anything can be done if I throw a bunch of money at it. I could even rebuild the entire house to get plumbing lines here. That's why I'm asking if it's reasonable, because rebuilding the house is not reasonable. Nor is spending $20k on a sink. And like a lot of people on here, I'm not calling a pro at this point because I'm kicking around the idea and don't want to have someone come to my house to look at it just to tell me it's impossible without spending a fortune. I figured someone on this site would have the knowledge and could tell me.

Hi Anj, i’m a dog lover, myself with three of the furry ones under my care. And yes, they certainly get dirty and love to play in the mud. That being said, I think it would be rather simple to do what you are asking. Naturally, assuming the plumbing is in good condition, and has been done properly with a vent stack.
Lots of bathrooms are back to back, and I share a drain line and water supply lines. Naturally, you’d have to take a look at what’s in the walls and might need a little work to tie into the drain, but I think it should work, OK.
True you might have some elevation issues but I do agree getting a plumber involved would be a good idea. It’s not a complicated issue so perhaps watching a YouTube video might give you the answers you need :-) D

@SafelyBuild Thanks! Good to know that it's feasible and probably relatively simple. Of course I will call a plumber - I am not at all a DIY'er!
