Flowergirl, I don't think I can help you with this question. I do not think this to be clorosis. You can add iron to the garden bed just to check but if the soil is iron deficient it should affect the entire plant. Your problem is not unique. I have seen plants that appear the same way and in fact I have seen it in the same bed on diffent cultivars, again only affecting a few stems of each plant. The diffence in the stems is not always just a slight diffence. The next year all of the foliage appeared to be normal. It has me as baffled as it has you. I think it may have to do with the growing season due to the fact that in 2003 I had one plant that experienced this and a friend located some 10 miles away had the same problem on 2 of here plants. A similar temporary condition can be caused by damage from cold. I think this would have to be caused by cold damage that occures after the shoots begin to emerge. While in dormancy a peony plant can take a lot of cold with no damage. Some sources also call this condition clorosis. I think of clorosis as a condition primarily caused by an iron deficiency. A similar problem can also be caused by virus, however a virus is not limited to a portion of the plant. It will move thoughout the vascular system of the plant and all parts will be affected. I think this will happen pretty rapidly. I do have a few tree peonies which have this condition. It doesn't affect flowering but the plant looks bad by mid-summer. I notice this on tree peonies that I have grafted onto herbaceous roots of very old herbaceous cultivars. I usually try to get rid of these plants. Anyone out there want one of these tree peonies?

My cutting was one that i brought back from CA and didnt do well, so i had to recut and start over. It did root but it is small. At least i have it and it will grow. I started with the cutting about 4-6 inches. Never thought it would take, but it did!!! So dont ever think that it can be to small to root, because it just might!!! : ) ALex, My DIvine has been a great tree as well, Very strong bloomer and has grown twice the size since last year!!! Its still a compact tree, but has really filled out quite a bit!!! Love how long the blooms stay around on this DIvine. I think this is a must for everyone's list. Sorry to hear about your PP.last year it did well for you. Hopefully, next year it will be the strong bloomer for you!!! MY dissapointments this year have been some cuttings that i brought back from CA that are very special to me. Im still in the process of rooting one that came from a special tree. My California Sally has taken her sweet time to root. I have had to recut her and try over due to root rot. It seems when you want a particular one to do well, it will be the one that gives you heartache. Im hoping that it will do well. I do have leaves starting to form from the cutting, but no roots yet. Sparky has done the same for me. Had to recut him and start two different cuttings. One is going south to a dear friend and i hope she has better luck at rooting this special cutting!! : ) My other dissapointment was my Lavender. I thought from early spring that i had seen some indication of an inflo starting to form. It didnt do anything this season, and its been one that i have been anxiously waiting to see. So i think that this spring, this one and many others will get a good root pruning and get repotted in some better mix. : ) Here are some pictures of some of my favorites... Hi Karen. Sorry but the sticky yellow sheets won't do the trick for you. It's used as an indicator and the whiteflies won't leave your plants for the traps. Spray the whiteflies with a mixture of cooking oil (one teaspoon) and mild shampoo (one teaspoon) to about a half gallon of water. Shake it up well and spray directly on the whiteflies, just enough to wet them. They congregate on the bottom of the leaves so it's a bit of work. Apply again next day as some are going to get away on you. Now you should apply a bit of low nitrogen fertilizer to the plants. Along with a tablespoon of Epsom Salts per gallon of water. Give a gallon to each plant and you should see improvement in a few days. Best of luck.

There is a Five Guys here in town right next to where I usually get my hair cut, that people had been raving about. Twice while trying to kill time until the hair cut, I went into Five Guys, waited in line for about 5 minutes, and got so turned off by the slow line, the peanut shells littering the grease-slickened floor, and the sign atop the menu declaring "All of our burgers are cooked to well-done" that I ended up leaving without ordering anything. A third time I was determined to try the food, and was not at all impressed. The burger made up for the fact that it was overcooked by being very greasy, the bun was soggy and flavorless, the lettuce was wilted from being steamed while the burger was wrapped in foil. The fries were far, far too many, and way too salty, and were mushy and greasy, and they went from too hot to eat, to too cold and greasy, seemingly without ever passing through the "just right" temperature. I went to a local hot-dog restaurant that seemed to be aiming for "like Five Guys, but with hot dogs instead of burgers" and their fries were some of the best I'd ever had. Maybe that's how Five Guys was when it first started out, and its merely that the local franchisee is not doing such a great job, but I'll certainly not be back.
