Design tips for teen boy's bathroom?
Comments (16)My 13 yo daughter and 10 yo son share a bathroom... obviously too old for a fishy or ducky theme. We went with a medium tone wood-look tile on the floor, 4x4 white tiles with white grout on the walls (almost 5 feet up). The rest of the walls and ceiling are a semi-gloss white. The vanities are 3 white cabinets, bead-board style. The countertop is quartz- the black one with a silver sparkle in it. We went with drop-in sinks and it hasn't been an issue. The biggest 'HATE' is the brushed nickel faucets. They always look really dirty, even though it's just water spots. Those are going to be replaced, for sure. The floor hides EVERYTHING. For the most part, I've cleaned around the toilet and vacuumed. My 2nd regret is not putting a subway tile on the walls. I was nervous about messing it up and the cost was much more than square tiles so I blew it off. The semi-gloss paint has been very easy to clean... same with the white wall tiles. We went with a curved shower curtain rod and the curtain is a map of the Chicago "El" system. We stayed with the chicago theme by adding a wire Sears Tower and a cool Eddie Vedder concert poster. After all that, my pics are on the other computer! lmao!...See MoreColor vanity for a teen bathroom
Comments (13)Wood will definitely add warmth to the room :) I used a pale blue and a cream color in the small bathrooms in my Grayhawk project. If the vanity you are purchasing comes unfinished where you can paint it, using a pale color can always add a fun, personal touch to the space!...See MoreCan I have drywall taken out for bathroom vanity to fit?

Comments (2)I have noticed the preference with LVP seems to be somewhat regional. In my area high end homes are built with wood look vinyl now. Personally I have teenagers and wouldn’t install tile on the floor in their bathroom, as much as I would love the opportunity to design a bathroom around some really great floor tile. There are really great vinyl options, and I want it to be as easy as possible for teenagers to clean themselves, no porous grout on the floor to worry about. If it was my own bathroom it would be different. Of course if YOU really want tile there are definitely options that are better than others as far maintenance, durability, and budget for kid bathrooms. If it’s a matter of stretching your budget, I wonder if the contractor is anticipating bringing in separate sub contractors instead of one tile person? I know the quote for my sister in a different part of the country to do LVP flooring was astronomical compared to the cost of labor where I am. The cost savings seem most significant when it comes to DIY vinyl floors....See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
