Can natural stone shower curb be sanded and re-polished for slope?

The threshold on my frameless, curbed, stand-alone shower was capped with a solid piece of natural stone (polished quartzite). Unfortunately, the curb was not sloped (5 degrees) into the shower. Instead, it is nearly level. Water pools on top of the curb, and leaks onto the bathroom floor.

The fabricator who did the work (8 years ago) was unlicensed and hired by the GC -- I have no way to contact the original fabricator.

Another fabricator, who has done work for me previously, said that he may be able to sand down the curb to create the proper slope and then he can re-polish the threshold without trying to remove and replace it. I don't know if he would have to mess with the glass shower enclosure to do this.

Does any one have experience with this? The alternative is to have the glass company install a metal or acrylic dam strip (5/16-inch high) on top of the center of the curb to block the standing water from flowing onto the bathroom floor.

Any experience with either solution?
