The only thong i'd change to keep either option from becoming dated is to use chrome fixtures instead of brushed nickle (the finish of the day now a days). Chrome has always been and will always be, in style, from victorian days on forward. I'll throw another option in the mix...I have tan travertine in my master bath with chocolate cherry cabinets and a brown ceramic tile (ok it's crocodile skin but we're not counting) with white fixtures. It's a pretty classic looking room due to cabinet style. My counters are crema marble (soft tan marble). In my son's bathroom we have travertine with nordic black antique qranite accents on the floor (baseboard molding) and in the tub surround pattern. His counters are granite in Aquerella (looks like black granite with tan rocks all over it). My take on a black and tan :) White fixtures with chrome because white and chrome is always classic.

I like just plain white or a simple look with no black in it actually. Like this? Just plain and simple and let beauty of the tile do the talking!) Let the vanity and subway tile be all glossy and they hex of the tile will be showy enough. I think she could subway most everything and if she really loves they other she could trim it off and talk to Dad about buttering the tiles. Butter up Dad maybe! LOL! Or they make it colorful in really pretty floral designs! That would really be nice but you's probably have to stick to a subway tile. I shall go hide from your husband now, just as I hid from my tilesetter!!!!

Sumod- The medicine cabinets are simple wood frames with a cabinet-grade plywood back that just sit in the stud cavity. Because of the dimensions, the front of the frame projects about 1"+ beyond the finished wall. The medicine cabinet doors are also plywood with veneered edges and they are attached to the frame with standard cabinet hinges (Euro hinges). The mirrors are just 1/4" plate glass ordered to size from a glass shop and held in place with mirror mastic and a metal strip at the bottom that you don't really see. The guy who did the cabinets just made the medicine cabinets as part of the job. I don't know about the door brand...we live in a large metro area that has lots of door shops and the doors are just solid core maple doors with the center cut out and a maple panel held in with molding. They're not stained; they simply have a couple coats of clear spray lacquer.

I agree with Cpartist"s layout and like moving the closet over as suggested by D M so that bedroom 3 has easier access to the bathroom. Do you have room to have the toilet face the tub and add a linen cabinet next to the toilet? How wide is the tub toilet area?
