Oh yes! I'd forgotten that I'd seen one a long time ago. The one I saw had tiny leaves but they were shaped exactly the same way and glossy too. I guess this is a lucky volunteer for me.

Nel5397, this is in N. California. I checked for images of Eugenia myrtifolia and it does look like one. So much for my hope for a Magnola Figo.

Tabernaemontana divaricata?

Hmm, Ardisia does look similar, but its leaves don't look as radial and its berries always seem to droop, instead of just stick out erect? Carolina Buckthorn (Rhamnus caroliniana) also looks similar, but it doesn't have such large berry clusters and they are suppose to still turn black when fully ripe. Sooo, still at a loss here?
