Name That Plant!

Glossy leaved shrub

It came with the house and I did my best to save it from construction. I don't think its crepe myrtle since the leaves are pointier than the ones I noticed in my other crepe myrtle trees. Now its putting up new leaves and growing nicely(some of the whiteness is the trunk is from paint and stucco) I tried to identify it and it seems to have some resemblance to Banana Shrub/Magnolia Figo/Port Wine Magnolia but since it hasn't bloomed yet and the leaves are a bit longer, I can't be sure. TIA for helping me identify this plant.

'Port Wine' is a specific cultivar of Magnola figo. But anyway this is definitely something completely different from those.

What part of the world is this tree in? It looks like a Eugenia topiary that had frost damage cut out of it.

It could also be a Viburnum dentatum cultivar. My 'Chicago Luster' is starting to leaf out and it looks like your photo. One yours gets totally leafed out and blooms, an exact id can be made. Hmm, Ardisia does look similar, but its leaves don't look as radial and its berries always seem to droop, instead of just stick out erect? Carolina Buckthorn (Rhamnus caroliniana) also looks similar, but it doesn't have such large berry clusters and they are suppose to still turn black when fully ripe. Sooo, still at a loss here?

Nel5397, this is in N. California. I checked for images of Eugenia myrtifolia and it does look like one. So much for my hope for a Magnola Figo.
