Should I get rid of Cl. Souvenir de La Malmaison?
Comments (15)roseseek - exactly. Most of the kordes roses look so healthy, they reminded me of those knock-out roses. I like my Austins to bloom well, but at the same time, I don't like the rose bush to be covered in too many blooms that I can't see the foliage. How weird. blocke19 - I live in Victoria. Thanks for the suggestion. However, I'm a really shy person who prefers my own companion, if you know what I mean. Thanks anyway. Jerijen - I think your location is quite similar to mine. Your SDLM suffered from mildew, and so did mine. I remember you saying that Austins are thirsty shrubs and need plenty of water. I had to water mine regularly. I'm not too fond about growing teas, chinas and noisettes. I just don't like the foliage. The only tea rose that I would like to grow one day is Mme Berard. You're spot on about Teas being the right choice for my location. Every time I drive pass a few suburbs, I would see a tea rose flowering non-stop....See MoreOctober Rose...Should i get rid of Powdery Mildew before i plant?
Comments (16)Thank you everyone! After taking it all in I'm thinkin' that firstly, I have to/will treat the PM then the best course of action (and easiest) is to dismantle part of my current garden and get this baby planted. Kate, IÂve heard that planting the pot is a good solution but ya know it will take me about the same amount and effort to dig a hole big enough (and i mean big!) to put the pot in the ground and transplanting in the spring seems kinda iffy. Soo i'm just going to plant her in her permanent home...with all the bells and whistles (compost and planting soil and all the amendments and good stuff in heavy bags that I thought I was done with for the season). IÂll prep her for the winter, unbound her undoubtedly pot bound roots, prune her in late winter and treat her PM all the while. Sooo that's the plan:) Any more thoughts are always appreciated! Thanks so much again and Take Care! Dale...See MoreHow Far Away From the Wall/ House Should I Plant My Limelight Hyd
Comments (13)THANK YOU everyone for your all of your thoughtful insight. hcmcdole: I really like your idea of trying to grow them as a free form esapaillar. Or what if I just prune REALLY aggressively on the backside???... So here's what I'm thinking I'm going to do: I am going to prune REALLY aggressively on the backside of the plant to minimize it's growth and spread against the wall... Do you think this would work??? I don't mind how much if it wants to spread forward away from the wall or side ways in width. I would also like to minimize and maintain about a 5 foot height... That way it can overlap the bottom edge of my windows... And I can see the flowers even from the inside of the house. Is limelight the kind of hydrangea that will respond well to pruning and shaping during the growing season??? I know that I would probably make my life a whole lot easier if I just got the Little Lime variety... But it was nearly twice as much for a 2 gallon... Which isn't in my budget. What do you all think??? Am I going to be sorry years from now for even considering this idea and thinking I can keep Limelights growth maintained with pruning during the growing season??? I've never had much luck with hydrangeas in the past... So it's difficult for me to fathom a hydrangea that will grow 8 feet tall and grow so quickly....See MoreShould I get rid of shower?
Comments (36)It's not uncommon to have a powder room, that is, a bathroom, serving a downstairs living area. Sometimes they are too close for comfort to where other people are. Not uncommon at all. Get a noisy fan ;) While it is unusual to have a bathing unit included in lower level bathrooms, I think yours feels particularly off because it's dressed like a bedroom bath. I missed that you've already got a lower level apartment. If that would work for one-floor living at a time when you might be temporarily unable to do the stairs, then you don't really need to retain a full bath. Unless this is a house for a large family with four or more children or something. Lyfia has a good idea but how much further is the upstairs bath from the kitchen (which looks like it is still another level away)? Was this general area a separate apartment also?...See Morececily 7A
