Gold finishes in bathroom not matching

I am struggling with my new primary bathroom. I had my heart set on all gold finishes and hardware. Everything in there is very white and light gray and light colored so gold seemed pretty and light to go with it. The cabinets are a white oak color, with a white quartz countertop. I chose all my stuff online in advance in order to have it all ready for the trades and builders. Once it arrived, we tucked it into storage here at the house to be ready when they needed it. I made the mistake of not laying all of them side by side together. I peeked at each when they arrived, but was like, oh yeah, that looks close. Well now they are all installed in my new house in my new bathroom and every single thing is slightly different!!!! Gold is so hard to match! Is this a design no-no??

My faucets are slightly a yellow gold. Standing tub filler by the soaking tub is a darker gold. The shower head and hardware is between those two. And then my lights have some gold but they almost look rose gold?!?! (These are driving me the most crazy)

We have yet to get a glass shower door installed. I chose a gold color online but now I’m worried it will be ANOTHER shade of gold that doesn’t match. I also have yet to choose cabinet hardware because I can’t figure out which shade of gold to do!!! And same for towel bar and TP holder and such. Everything I find, it seems that it is a different shade of gold. Is that fine? Do I make that my theme of the room? “Here’s my primary bathroom with 8 shades of gold finishes in it!” OR do I need to add a second metal, like black, and try and do some black AND gold finishes to distract from the fact that we have a mixture of various gold shades? Like black cabinet pulls, black shower door hardware, and then switch my lights to something with black and gold (since those are driving me most crazy?) And then leave the gold items that are already installed..?

Ugh. Idk. Help!

You could start by telling us exactly what you bought. Brand/style

You aren't going to be able to change the shower plumbing without a huge hassle. Tub filler ? Might also be stuck with. Depends.

There's no gold necessary on a shower enclosure, it can be all glass but for the handle and hinges

The faucets are an easy switch, as is anything else such as cabinet hardware, towel accessories, lighting.

I would add another finish, PERHAPS matte black on faucets depending style in the bath, and

WE REALLY CAN'T ADVISE until you inform what you have now.

Lesson # 1..............open the boxes when you order online.

Lesson # 2 a dedicated plumbing supply store local to you is better than online

Lesson #3 When in doubt stay in ONE brand if you want desperately want a match . Possible exception is polished chrome: )

Husband wants what I want, but he said brass after I begged him for advice. You can see how desperate I am LOL! I am actually looking for something less expensive as this is a short term residence in a market that heavily favors "affordable" homes. AHH, but that is lovely! Maybe the next house (seems to be my motto) :D I had never really considered nickle. I did some browsing and now I am really confused! Ok, did another mockup. Found a faucet that had all of the finishes so they can be compared. Is the brass too bright? Along the bottom starting at the left, brass, nickle, bronze, and antique brass. I don't know what those two are at the top. I was looking for a good comparison pic and forgot to erase those two.

Dilly, Sunlight Yellow seems like a very probable name for what I have. Not bad per se, but tricky to work around. I wonder what original bath schemes it fit with? Mine has paneling below the chair rail (no tile anywhere), so I caulked the seams and painted it white. Do you think a softer neutral shade on the walls would work better than stark white? I know you mentioned the bisque sink. The faucets definitely need replacing; they are extremely hard to pull up to get the water on. I do like that just one handle is needed to get the water temp and flow just right. I like the look of two handles, but single seemed more practical, like happyladi said. It sounds like you've found them (even new ones) to be less reliable? Justgotabme, I like your idea. I think I've seen a display in an antique store very similar to show the bed set up but not take up much room. Did you mean to say use the footboard as the front of the crib instead of the sides? The bed I saw basically had custom made very short rails connecting the head and foot boards, so I can see how that would look like a toddler daybed. But if you have a different plan for the footboard as the sides, maybe I'm not picturing the right thing. Thanks for the chandi complements. I hung it a few months ago, after buying it off eBay. I really like the smoked glass column, but a few posters commented that it looked too sterile, like something for a breakfast nook not a bedroom. It's a bit low hanging, as justgotebme mentioned, but I have a tufted bench at the foot of the bed that it hangs above, so it's not really over the walkway. I'm just not sure about the overall look, so I'm considering changing the glass shades to soften it a bit.

IMO it really depends upon individual situations. Proximity weighs in, too. Of course, all the same finishes is fine; but that does not mean mixing isn't to be done, just that it needs to be done thoughtfully. A mix can draw attention to what you want to be focal points and can make a room be more interesting visually. In our guest bath, all of the finishes are brushed nickel, except the TP holder. But the TP holder is attached to the side of a dark wood vanity, and I did not want to draw attention to it. The antique bronze blended in perfectly, yet does not look out of place because it is visually an extension of the vanity. Along those lines, shower curtain rods, shower door handles and toilet levers are often not a design feature you want to accent, so I would use what would make them visually less noticeable. Ceiling lighting and sconces generally are the same finish, but I believe you can successful pull off an outstanding antique bronze chandelier, for example, by having utilitarian sconces and faucet fixtures in a nickel finish. Items on the same impact level, such as faucets and towel bars, I would usually try to keep the same finish. If the faucets are the focal, they could be one finish and the balance of the other items in the room be something else. As for proximity, I believe all the finishes inside the shower can match, but be different than the finishes in other areas of the room, IF there is a reason/point of doing so. A shower head in one finish and the shower knobs in another would be trickier to pull off but may work if the finish of the knobs blended with the tile so the shower head becomes a focal point. Some finishes mix better than others. And the design style of the features in the mix matter. As does the backdrop, as mentioned above.

That faucet is gorgeous. I have to see what shower set might go with it. It is the printmakers, and we definitely stepped away from Tudor style a bit with it. We didn't want to go too dark since it's a north facing room. I'm worried about the vanity and quartz making it too modern or industrial, which is why I'd like the other choices to try to bring in more of a vintage and feminine sort of feel to balance that more masculine piece. Almost a soft industrial, if that's possible. i was thinking of doing a frameless mirror like this.... Do you think that would work? any wall sconce suggestions? should I stick with the brass for things like towel bars, shelf brackets, etc if I go with brass faucets? Or should I introduce black there to pull in the dark color of the floor?

Gold is a finish

Brass is a finish. Brass can be lacquered or bare.

They are completely different

Gold is so expensive that many plumbing fitting manufacturers don't even offer it.

Here are examples of unlacquered brass and how they age over time. You better get a firm grip on what you purchased and address it now or your problems are going to get more complicated in the future.

Why aren't all your faucets and other plumbing fixtures from the same brand and therefore the same finish?

I also used "gold" but my sink faucets, tub filler and shower fixtures are all Brizo. Towel bars and TP holder are also all Brizo, so they also match.

I did use a very specific handheld shower bar brand, but I bought it a plumbing supply showroom and was able to match their wide selection of sample chips to the Brizo "gold" and order the bar in that color.

My "gold" sconces and pendant are both slightly different but it works just fine.

My Robern medicine cabinets were also supposed to be "gold", but luckily I got to see a sample before the order was finalized. It was a really hideous yellow gold, so I canceled and just did chrome. I would have preferred just a bevel edge mirror, but they only offered a metal border in this size med cabinet.

So 4 different "golds" in this photo ... Brizo faucets & towel bar, sconces, pendant and drawer knobs.

Yea we used the same brand for plumbing fixtures to avoid this issue. Still had to exchange a light fixture and drain to get a better match. I’m hopeful that with most things being from the same brand and other items not being right next to each other, it’ll still work.

If you can’t exchange, you could mix in a good complementary metal, like chrome. That’s what we would have done if we’d been unable to get matching fixtures.
