Okna 400 vs Window World [base model]

I am installing 11 windows. The quoted price difference is less than $100. My question is.. which is a better quality window?! Many like both. Reviews are all over the place. Leaning toward the Okna.. but just not sure.

the 400 is Okna's entry line. Window World (at least in my area uses other crap manufacturers) is someone I would not use in any model.

My advice to everyone I talk to is that they should purchase the best window that they can which fits into their budget. The only caveat to that, is the folks that do not have a realistic budget to begin with, but that is not a problem here. Ultimately, you are spending $5k give or take. A difference of a few hundred dollars is going to be very small if not irrelevant in the grand scheme when you take into consideration the size of the purchase and the fact that you have to live with these windows for the next X number of years. If you have the windows for 20 yrs, that is a difference $2 and change per month, or $32 per yr. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem to make much sense to base this choice on price. My advice: Pick the window that you like better from the installation company that you like better. Easy as that. You won't go wrong either way on product (installer is another matter, but we can't really offer much on that without knowing the companies in question). Easy enough ;)

I think thats exactly what he is saying. He wrote that air and water can come through the sill dam when the testing proves it does not. He also wrote that "the sill wall is flimsy and moves with a slight push of the finger. What I see in the picture is is a red finger and thumb from the amout of pressure that must be applied to bend the sill dam.He also wrote that there is an issue with the header wall and movement.I would like to know where that is. This guy is talking like he is in a homeowners kitchen where no one knows better. Simonton is a good performing window but not the best and i have no problem with factual comparisons but these are lies. I am considering forwarding this thread to Simontons legal department.

Hi toddinmn, Thank-you so much for your quick replies. Are they the 400 or 400 woodrights? 400 Are they staining, painting, or ordered prefinished For the 400’s? Prefinished is an extra $125/window. They would be replacing the interior casing with new, primed casing. are they replacing the interior trim? Will that be stained/painted? Yes but just primed what are they doing with the exterior trim? Nothing are they removing any siding? I will be replacing the siding but that is a separate project I hope to do as the same time as the window replacements. Do you’re Windows have lead based paint? My house is a 1987 home so I imagine that I do not have lead based paint.

Good decision to dismiss the Alside Mezzo, it's really not a window that should be considered by most homeowners with a reasonable budget and an interest in buying windows that perform well year after year. In an environment with extremely cold winters, keeping indoor air in and outdoor air out is particularly important. Okna's Air Leakage rating is one of the best in the industry, making it a great choice. The second part of the equation is getting an installation that doesn't undermine the performance of the window. If your quote on Okna is from HomeSealed, you've found one of the very best. If it's not, I'd recommend getting him out to see how his installation stands out from the competition.

The Okna is better by a mile. Dont know too many pro’s who would ever recommend window world. What was the window world pricing?

All double hungs? any grids ?

"Many" do not like the WW base window. They just like a low price and delude themselves into believing that a low cost window and low cost labor somehow = a good deal.

The Okna is much, much better, however as mentioned above, I'd strongly recommend stepping up at least one model to the Insultec/500 or higher.

Window Genius - I am in VA. No grids. Low E & Argon for $7554 for Okna & $7603 for WW. 11 windows.

I have 1977 windows - single pane. Hold out for Okna 500? Or upgrade now. And, yes, double hung/half screen.

The okna 400 and window world were basically the same priice: $7600 fpr 11 basic double hungs? Thats crazy cheap for the okna 400 which is their budget series.

Great News! Called the Okna installer. The Okna quote is actually for the 500 series.. not the 400 series.
