Beware of Thermador Appliances

We built our house six years ago in November and we already have to replace our gas cooktop, have had our wall oven fixed twice, and the refrigerator is impossible to clean thoroughly. They are all Thermador appliances. Thermador no longer carries the part to fix the cooktop ignitor. They would not respond to me about the oven problems, and the refrigerator shelf is just bolted in place and can't be removed for cleaning because that's the way they do it. It's an expensive brand and you would think that might mean they'd stand by the products or have some research into how homeowners might take care of their pricey purchase. Won't buy anything made by them again.

THERMADOR warrants that the Product is free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of seven hundred thirty (730) days from the date of purchase. The foregoing timeline begins to run upon the date of purchase, and shall not be stalled, tolled, extended, or suspended, for any reason whatsoever.

THERMADOR is under no obligation, at law or otherwise, to provide you with any concessions, including repairs, prorates, or Product replacement, once this warranty has expired.

@HU988907488, have you searched for the needed cooktop part? New and used items can be found on eBay, depending what's offered by sellers at a given point in time. You also didn't reference the specific model numbers of your units for the reference of others who find your review/warning. All Thermador models may not exhibit the same issues that you've experienced.

I have bought many a used car in the past. The trick is knowing what you are buying by your own general knowledge (or your s/o's) and doing your research. I bought a used fridge for my garage 2 years ago, works like a charm. You also have to have an instinct about the person selling the item. I wouldn't buy from someone I couldn't talk to like on ebay. Even so, people do get scammed. My BIL and his wife bought an almost new Audi for 22,000.00. Had 30,000 miles on it and was over $80,000 new. I would never buy an $ 80,000 car, but I would buy the "almost new" version. Buyer beware, as the saying goes.

I bought a set of Thermador appliances a couple of months ago but was left disappointed. The oven on the gas hob wasn't working, and they made us contact an outside repair representative. The repairman came to our house 3 times replacing parts but failed. I demanded a new appliance but was refused. Very disappointed and would never recommend their products to anyone. I advise you to buy appliances from another manufacturer. IMO there is no reason to gat all matching appliances you buy appliances for how you cook all plain old stainless they will all go together and any decent appliance store will negotiate a pkg deal no matter how you choose the appliance. IMO still the best DW is a Bosch hands down. 36" walkways are not large enough and I am not sure what the 10" bump out is. IMO Wolf and Sub Zero are both over priced and over rated . IMO a free DW is not worth having other appliances that are not what you want. IMO you are spending money for things that might not be the perfect choices sine an under the counter freezer drawer is very expensive for what IMO is too small for storage. Why not go Electrolux all fridge all freezer columns with built in kit and both for less than 4K all in .I have the Fridgedaire ones they are 15 yrs old not one service call and honestly if they die tomorrow and I get them again for another 15 yrs I will still have spent less than a Subzero fridge .If you post your plan here maybe you will get some help tweeaking what you are doing in the space just make sure the plan is to scale and all measurements clearly marked

When we remodeled our kitchen 13 years ago, we went for the Thermador package (36" range with free DW, 36" fridge with free hood). At the time I had never heard of the sentiment: "yuck...too matchy-matchy." In any case, I liked that the handles on the oven, DW and fridge match, and that the stainless steel all has the same grain/sheen, but I didn't specifically buy it because they matched, but rather, the bundle deal allowed me to have the range that I wanted. Frankly, I love all four pieces. The only problem we have had is that we had to have a repair on the ice maker. No issues with range, hood, or DW in 13.5 years. The units all look like they did on installation, except for the "star" burners on the most-used burners are now gray instead of black; doesn't bother me, I use a stainless cleaner that shines everything up like new. Also, a few years after we remodeled, I read some reviews of Thermador that were pretty negative (Sub-Zero and Wolf reviews were often bad, too), but the fact that I have had no issues is good enough for me. Good luck with your decision. Can't help with Blue Star.

What is the cooktop model number? Try entering the model number at Sears Parts Direct and consult the diagrams you need. For example, ignitor for the Thermador SGSX305FS/01 gas cooktop is Part #612817 which has been replaced by Part #00612817. You can find that part on the Search Parts Direct site or lots of them on ebay.

You didn't explain what was wrong with the oven or how you expect Thermador to "respond to me about the oven problems"?

How dirty can a refrigerator get? Just clean around the fixed shelf.

Often appliances made years ago are of a higher caliber than those made recently, including from same brand.
