Exterior Design Dilemma Building a Home

please help me pick a roof for my new home!!!

Hi I am building the house (this is the inspo house) in the first picture with the two chimneys and steep roof. My windows are black and gas lanterns are black the dormers and rain gutters will be copper. The stone I’m doing is the stone on the next three pictures. I also want to incorporate barn wood maybe with planters under windows or as window headers. I’m stumped on the roofing to do however. I I wish I could do cedar shakes like the pictures or even a composite but I have to do a asphalt shingle says my budget… I don’t know if I should do a weathered wood shingle or grey one. I have been looking at the Gaf woodland cedar Abby shingle for a cottage look or a shake style like certenteed presidential in weather wood. Any suggestions I can’t visualize it and it’s keeping me up at night cause my house is so roof heavy as dumb as that is 🫣

Sorry but budget is tight and this is the house you are building? There are shingles that have the look of cedar shakes . Where I live cedar shakes are not a good idea since there go up in flames quickly in forest fire areas. I think the house is quite lovely I sure would not add window boxes or cedar trim anywhere . I do not think gutters are decor elements and where exactly are they on the house IMO the pic you post is the way I would do the house it is always IMO best to keep exteriors simple and let the style of the house be the star. I think with that stone a gray for the roof but I see 3 different stones on my monitor so which one.

There is a free software to download scanned pics of house then you can "paint" to see if you like it? They have several major paint supplers in the paint database. Takes some time but really works.

I'm with Les on ' don't bother with improving for appraisal' -- except where lack of maintenance shows. Thus peeling paint on the trim needs to be cleaned up so do the 'white thing' just to tidy for now. The area in front of the brick porch wall needs tidying - perhaps buy another small bush or three for that area and trim the bush to the right in the pic. Any other areas which aren't clean and tidy (not meaning mag picture perfect - just clean and tidy) need addressing for appraisal purposes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there was a prior post on possible improvements for this home, with some photoshopping and suggestions of beefing up the columns and like that?? So OP is looking for trim color suggestion not general improvement suggestions? So basically answer to question would be paint trim white (good base for future color choices) and clean, tidy & scrub for appraisal purposes. IMHO

I would likely plant it about 5’-6’ from the edge of the yard about half way back towards the house, preferably in a planting bed with other shrubs, perennials, or ground covers. This is a large, full plant, typically somewhere near 10’ Tall and wide within 10 years, and it isn’t easy to control size with pruning because it regrows quickly every year but often is floppier with more pruning due to large, heavy bloom heads. You don’t want it where it will interfere with sight lines to the road from the driveway, so not near the road or even close to the sidewalk. You also don’t likely want it marooned by itself in the middle of the lawn or blocking sight lines to the front door.

It’s all the same stone that’s why I posted three pictures cause they are different lighting these are local homes I got the pics off Instagram but have seen them
In real life and talked to the stone yard so they do all have my same stone.

I have could budget to do a composite look if I wanted to but with a 9000 square foot roof and all the copper I’m doing im trying to ace where I can and be practical and I have seen amazing homes with designer asphalt shingles when done right.
