Not meaning to be snarky…but, what did you expect? All surfaces are white and shiny. It all just reads ice cold. Wood floors would’ve helped.

“Organic” modern? Organic…”Relating to or derived from living matter.” Organic would’ve been wood slab doors, not glossy artificial material.

And, modern…would’ve had many more drawer stacks, not a run of cabinet doors.

I don’t think Taj Mahal will help.

Not very helpful input but fyi…The house selections were made while we lived out of state…Originally going for a contemporary style.
Now that we are living here trying to work w what I have. Will be adding wood details to the wall on the left of cabinets along w wood stools.

How about starting with decor before you change the counters. Some natural elements will warm it up a lot.

You wanted thoughts…for starters, I’d be ripping out those sterile, slippery looking floors, installing wood.

Modern or contemporary, doesn’t mean sterile; lack of color. Paint the walls a color.

I think Taj Mahal may be too bland. I like something like this backsplash that makes a statement. You could use white quartz for countertops. They also have wood accents that warm up the space like you were wanting to do.

My goodness people, this is a brand new kitchen, I don't think the OP is going to rip anything out. Let's use our imaginations about how to help them bring something organic to this hospital like setting.

DK - Are you settled on getting new counters or are you trying to do that to bring down the glossy vibe? If you are getting them anyway, I'd get honed. I wonder if instead of getting new counters it would be better to invest the money in getting new face fronts for the island made of wood? Don't know how complicated that is. I think switching out one hard countertop surface for another isn't going to do much to change the look.

Is a dining area going to the left of the cabinet run? If so, I think having a large rug in that area will really help soften things up.

Lighting

I'd have installed an organic type lighting fixture over the island that becomes a focal point of the room. I wouldn't do individual 3 - 4 pendent lights but instead one or two huge fixtures with natural materials will take the focus away from the wall of sleekness. Your space is so vast and you are lucky to be able to fill it with big statement piece lights.

Stools

Instead of wood, I'd go for something woven and with texture. Texture will be the best antidote to sleek and glossy. And, I'd get a patterned fabric on the seat.

Brass Pulls

It is a small thing, but to add some warmth to the cabinets, I'd try swapping out the current tab pulls with brass ones. It will just break up the monolith of hard white gloss. Order two and try them out. I'd make the as long and large as possible. And, I'd add brass in one other place in the kitchen so it isn't so random.

Thank you Kendrah! Definitely getting new counters. The wood island is also a consideration but trying to avoid it unless necessary. The dining area will be to the left and will have upholstered and wood chairs. Love all your suggestions. Thank you very much!

Good to know the counters are a definite. I'd consider walnut or soapstone or a honed black stone. I think you need a grounding contrast color with no reflectivity. I'd like to see two different counters - one for the island and one for the wall cabinets. It will also help break up the large vast slick feeling of the space. I bet once you have counter stools in place, the grey island will be much less obvious and not need wood paneling. While it is not the vibe, yet, that you are going for, it is a really nice large work space with tons of cabinetry and great natural light. Overall an enviable kitchen.

I was going to suggest soapstone as well but that might be too big of a contrast but I think you really want to avoid shiny on the counters. All that shiny will be tough on the eyes. To go with the brass pulls look at brass lighting fixtures where the brass is an accent in the light.

Try a runner between the back wall and island.

Can we see your windows and the wall to the left of the kitchen? which way do the windows face? Have to you thought of window coverings such as woven blinds.

Is there a backsplash yet?

On your stools you could get ones with fabric or woven seats rather than wooden seats which will help to soften the space.

Don't know how much work is involved but what about replacing the open shelves on either side of the range with walnut shelves instead of what? It would make a big impact I think.

What are you thinking of doing for the backsplash?

Backsplash…either tile but someone suggested a honed stone to match island..something to consider I guess

Actually if you can, I would consider removing those shelves on either side of the range. Whatever you put on them is going to become so greasy and so filthy from the cooking. If you do that you can run the matte/honed backsplash right up that entire section and that would give a big break from the shininess of the cabinets.

Remove the shelves on either side of the hood. That was my first thought too. Those are grease collectors.

I would absolutely get honed, but I'd go bold with a colorful quartzite. Not white or gray but maybe a green, or a blue, or???

For example, here is my quartzite which would probably be too dark for you, but a lighter version might work.

I would then pick up one of the lightest colors from the quartzite and paint all walls that color. A color that is just slightly darker than white.

Then yes, add those wood elements and greens to warm everything up.

I am having trouble envisioning a veined counter working with the floors?

If it were me, I would use my money on incredible art, light fixtures, rugs and high end counter stools - and would leave all the finishes as is — I’d definitely bring in some black and some wood to warm things up

No to another stone with the existing flooring unless P.L.A.I.N . Definitely NOT Taj Mahal.

What is the flooring in the rest of the house? Quite honestly, if this floor is limited to the kitchen? Rip it now. It was the major boo boo in all aspects. Including slippery with a few drops of water : (

Oops my bad. I didn't look carefully at the floor. I thought it was a solid white. I came to post this photo but have to agree with the others, not to do a pattern with that floor.

I’ll never understand why all the outlets are smack dab in the middle of backsplash walls. Top or bottom vertical makes more sense these days. Your kitchen will be a beauty after you add your personal touches.
