Help with kitchen backsplash and cabinet paint color
We are remodeling our kitchen and got the countertops installed this weekend. Aqua Bella quartzite. Lots of gray and some green shades. We currently have tile backer up to prep for the backsplash. I would love advice on what color we should do for cabinets and color/pattern on tile backsplash. My original thought was a white cabinet and pull some gray from the countertops but can’t commit. Please help!! Pictures attached.

Comments (13)Sparklekitty, hmm... Not surprising that your hubby went with blue... #1 favorite guy color! Personally, I think the green toned down to a softer look with gray would look better tho... Your subway mockup does look clunky, because it looks stacked instead of running bond in the picture. Try doing something that is closer to your kitchen cabinet colors and you will notice a big difference. We have shaker style cabinets and drawers in a warm butternut finish on alder with 2 by 8 glass subways and they look great together. ;) While I do love the colors and tiles that jterrilynn has posted, I am pretty confident they won't work in your kitchen. Your kitchen colors are more calm and needing gray-based colors to complement them. Those tiles are pastel and iridescent and thus shiny. The hexagon shape, still reads country because of its shape. Take a look at the finished kitchen blog and look at the mosaic backsplashes. Most of them become a design feature in themselves. I believe using a mosaic tile would totally change the look and feel of your kitchen from calm and serene that you are going for. I do understand about loving color and boldness, I am a fused glass artist! My DH, KD and ID all kept telling me to tone it down and simplify my designs, sigh... and they were right! Comments (6)Hi there- well, it appears to me from your choices of the honed stone surface in a dark color (is that granite?), the industrial looking faucet, and the sleek chrome knob you chose that you're after a semi-contemporary look? All good together, and all make sense. The only suggest for the knobs for the cabinets is that instead of the polished chrome, maybe you want to go with a brushed metal surface that won't get fingerprints that show as easily? The same knob comes in a brushed metal--- it looks great. As to backsplash, that's super tricky because so much depends on whether you want a shiny surface that reflects light or maybe a more natural looking surface. Are you drawn to put a pop of color in, or do you want to remain more neutral? TMy choice with the dark counters and white cabinets would be a glass subway tile that's a translucent looking surface. Comments (0)Not a fan of this granite but willing to live with it IF I can get lighter painted cabinets. Need to replace all doors as some are broken. Hardware too. Will hire a pro to paint. Will change wall color too, once cabinet color is sorted out. Kitchen faces east with lots of windows, so very bright/light. Lots of ceiling lights. Walnut trim throughout the house which is staying. Tile floor is beige/sand color. Doors have been routed in a u-shape to accept hinges. Can’t change the hardware and keep the doors without major woodwork repairs to each door. Comments (24)Well shoot. Having just said that, but looking at your last picture, I think the cream in the cabs and the white in the baseboard are fighting. :( Do you like it overall? Like when you stand back and look at it as a whole, does it look good? Because that's more important than a close-up picture. I definitely get the stress of picking colors. I was pretty nuts when I did it. Not only did I test a million, but I made a speadsheet and made notes for each color at each time/light source I tested. Sometimes it seemed like overkill, but when Snowfall White appeared as an obvious winner (all rated "good" or "very good" for each category), I was happy with the process. I was trying to match it with Glacier White Corian, and it seemed harder than it should have been. My designer hadn't done much with Corian, so she didn't have a go-to white....See MoreAbby S

10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoI would NOT keep those maple cabs as-is w/that granite. You've already chosen the stone and it does not work w/the warm, yellow/orange cabinet stain.
**Make sure you're using bulbs in the 4000K temp range otherwise you're going to get warm, yellowish tones. I can see it in your photo**

This succulent shade is gorgeous. I'd think about doin the walls, the doors or the kick panel in that shade.
It's not a sin to paint them! heck, I painted mine 4 yrs ago and couldn't be happier
I actually refaced my doors/drawers because I wanted everything to match. the replacements were solid maple w/MDF center panel.
Who is painting for you? make sure you research exactly what their steps are. do they paint off-site? what do they use? spray? what kind of primer? do the sand before AND after the primer?All of these will make a diff in whether or not the paint chips. mine hasn't even after all this time.
I would go w/a nice bright white to compliment the stone. you don't want a warm white or a white w/yellow or red undertones. Some good whites by BM is Oxford White or chantilly lace. (do NOT use White Dove. very dingy gray)

another color combo. Eider White is a white that has gray under tones. and SW SeaSalt is a gray/green
Two other gray greens that you could think about doing w/that stone. either the door, the trim, the lower cabinets, the front kick panel, etc.BM Rainy Afternoon

This would also look like it could work. you'd have to try a sample.
She used that same repose gray on these cabinets. (love the brass handles). If the color looks like this in your kitchen, it would be a perfect shade for your quartzite.
Will they be using a lacquer conversion paint?please wait on backsplash tile. no rush. (but a nice gray green tile would look nice. please, no white subway tile. this one is the Newport tile w/either a soft gold pull or the nickel or chrome
make sure they fill all the current holes w/a good wood epoxy prior to priming. you want to use diff hardwareYou sure that stone is Aqua Bella

10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoGet the cabinets done first, THEN decide on a backsplash tile. you don't pick the tile until everything else is done. (don't forget to have all those hardware holes filled in)
that Tileshop tile resembles Cloe tile (I like the cloe but it and the other one does have variation. make sure you order more than one sample piece)
although this tribecca has a more distressed edging?
I still like the herringbone design if you're going w/all white
This green color is pretty if you go w/all white cabinets
Don't forget to update your bulbs. see how warm they look in this picture? as an experiment, go get some 4000K bulbs for all of your can lights just to see the diff. (and, if doing white cabinets, you'll want this temp bulb in order to choose the correct white color)Tilebar also has some nice samples you can order. 5 for $5.
This newport has a pretty gray/green shade in a 2x10 size
