It's that time again! I'm going to cook Thanksgiving dinner
Comments (15)I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow. Our T-day is going to be on Friday this year, because of various travel schedules, not to mention the several people who wanted to have dinner at their in-laws AND wanted to have dinner at DD's. I'm actually pleased ~~ for once, I won't be rushing home from work to start the prep for all the veggie dishes. Five vegs this year: cream-cheese/chili corn, harvard beets, gingered carrots & pears, snap peas (a change from the spinach squares), and a broccoli/cauliflower dish that has a nutmeg/cheddar sauce. Tried this last year and it was a success. 1 big bag of baby carrots, thoroughly rinsed, and the fat ones cut in half lengthwise. Dump in big pot of lightly salted boiling water, let boil for 10 minutes. While the carrots are cooking, open and drain a can of sliced pears -- this year, I'll have to slice halves, no pre-sliced in stock at the store. Put about ½ cup of pear jelly [or pear jam or apple jelly] in a small bowl and nuke just until warm and mostly melted. Stir ½ teaspoon ground ginger OR 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger into the melted jelly. Taste jelly and add more ginger if needed (you should be able to clearly taste the ginger). Depending on how many carrots, you may need to double the gingered jelly. Drain the carrots and dump into a large bowl. Pour the gingered jelly over and stir until all carrots are coated. Fold in the pear slices. For the dinner, it does very well on a warming tray, not going mushy. Have a good day, and may all your Thanksgiving dishes be wonderful....See MoreKitties once again *sigh*
Comments (8)I found someone! Yippeee for Four Paws!!! The kittens are healthy and eat really well etc... The siamese is probably a flame point(orange or maybe light brown) and the tuxedo colored one has cute markings so they'll be easy to find a home for. Mom cat did a great job with them before they fell down the wall. The only way they got down there is if mom was transporting them across the top of the open wall (in a shop sort of thing unfinished) and she got startled and dropped them on accident. There are no houses around there so I don't know where mom cat came from. The kittens are quite tame. I suspect mom cat was a cat that was dumped. I hope someone rescues her and any other babies she might have had. Thank you for all your encouragement and help! PJ...See MoreI'm pulling my hair out!! Mattress Q again!
Comments (3)Well I ended up going out today and buying a mattress, I've had it with the couch and delaying fixing the bed-- this forces it to be done so I went with the Temp Cloud Supreme. I just tossed a S&F-one of the ones you might be talking about. Beautyrest has their new "black" line, so S&F is revamping their line too now. To be honest, I've never seen or slept on a Kingsdown, I think that is the manufacturer for EA beds. (my buddy at EA says they won't work for a platform, you need the box spring to make it work. (Worse case I can return or exchange the Temp. The "heavenly Bed," I used to layover at all the Westins when UA owned them. They are ok, but you can load up your own bed to make it like that. I used to have a nice pillow top something when first out of college, then a thick featherbed from ScandiaDown, then NICE sheets, and a down quilt and pillows also from Scandia. I slept on that forever until my dog (no longer alive ) got sick and peed all over it. I think from that point forward, I have had trouble with mattresses. :( plus during that time I flew all over the world and started my career of jet lag ........... I am HOPING this one might work. and I sleep cold, husband does sleep hot, but always has to have a fan blowing on him year round - so he has to adjust. My sleep is more important. He can sleep on a brick uneven floor. He falls asleep in a minute no matter where and on whatever . HATE THAT SOOOO JEALOUS. I need ambien (doc prescribes it for you medical folks) every night for the last 20 yrs. (literally, my job has messed me up, at least I had 8 yrs of good sleeping with my line of work before the issues kicked in!,those were the days......bed is coming on Sunday, I'll keep you posted. I'll most likely still stay on the couch and air it out for a bit LOL!! (smell) I've had latex pillows before, they stink too. (smell) I did toss those, I can't ever change from down pillows!...See MoreI'm so discouraged...Is this how it is with custom cabinet shops?
Comments (16)If you think this is bad, don't try building a house. In my experience almost everyone in the trades over-promises (or is overly optimistic, depending on the way you look at it). My custom cabinets were one of the few things that were actually delivered on time. However, they weren't installed on time because the electrician, plumber, drywaller and floor installer over-promised (well, lied, in the case of a few). This is just the way the construction trades are. I am convinced they follow the motto: it is easier to ask forgiveness than seek permission. Let's say they tell you the truth about when your cabinets will be in: "Well, I can't really say. We only have 10 employees so if even one quits or goes to jail it messes everything up. Our best finisher's wife is pregnant and also has a 2 year old. Last time she was bedridden her last 2 weeks. If that happens this time he will be out those two weeks plus a few after the baby is born. I can already tell you are a perfectionist and my second best finisher won't do, so I need to wait for this guy. Also, my dad, who founded this shop, has prostate cancer and if he dies the shop will close for 3 days...." Or, it could be he just doesn't know but thinks he can't tell you that (because you'll respond, "everyone I know who got their cabinets through HD or Lowes got them in 12 weeks"), so he just tells you what you want to hear....See More- 3 years ago
