My DH thought I was nuts when we were shopping for a new mattress a few years ago as I was hopping from mattress to mattress at the store. But he is so happy now I did that. Our mattress is so firm and we both love it. When we go out of town we can't wait to get home to our own bed! It is so nice and firm. So start mattress hopping!

Fun2BHere, this mattress was a roll up one too with a pillow top. It was nice and firm when I first bought it but now it's horrible. I won't buy another one of these for myself. I think the other roll up mattress is in better shape because no one is sleeps in it long-term.

I'm glad to hear you're going to try one in person. I've never bought a mattress any other way. Just wear something comfortable and plan on feeling silly. Try all your normal sleeping positions. And treat yourself to new pillows too (I can find those even harder to buy than the mattress!).

I've been thinking we should buy a new mattress this year. We're still sleeping OK, and it looks clean, but we've used it a few years past the recommended length of time to keep one.

That's why I specified innerspring. I don't believe those are available as a roll-up.

We went through a few memory foam and pillowtop mattresses too. We simply hate memory foam. Finally we bought a traditional coil mattress with the type of coil where you do not feel your SO move. It is very firm. We love it. Never again with rollup or cheap mattresses.

We went looking but never bought and that was awhile ago. We definitely need to go again, soon! I wanted to get a better understanding of the hybrid mattresses...I'm also wanting a motion bed.

I've never tried a sleep number but I've heard from so many who have them that rave about them...might be worth a try.

we went with a hybrid latex mattress by Plushbed

i researched for hours and hours and almost went with Avocado, but they seemed too firm for us.

i like the latex, its a natural source vs. foam which made from petroleum. i don't want to sleep on and breathe in chemicals and have it off-gas for months, yuck!

i get the idea of 'trying' them in the store, but really how long are u laying on them?

the websites are really helpful, as in: which kind of sleeper are u? back, side, stomach. how much do u weigh etc..

for the mattress pad, we went with one from Woolroom. again, no synthetics.

I bought a matress online called Saatva its all organic cotton and does not require a box spring although they do sell 4 inch platform if you want one i did not get the extra firm although my daughter bought the extra i find it too hard but am very happy with mine Since there are no retail locations and they dont have to maintain a large inventory there is a significant savings They deliver, set up and remove the old matress You also have Something like 30 days to exchange I highly recommend Saatva

My DD had the same experience with her similar type mattress.

The last time I shopped for a mattress, I found that on the Macy's website, the descriptions of each (coil type) mattress included the coil count. So, after choosing the various characteristics (and price range) that I wanted, I looked at each mattress and narrowed it down to a couple with the highest coil counts. Then went to the store to try them out.

I ended up choosing between a Serta and a Sealy (no surprise there), ended up with the Serta because it had the better price at the time. My only regret is that it wasn't double sided (however, I think only a local mattress company - the Original Mattress Factory- makes those now. I also went to their store and also liked their mattress, just liked the other 2 a bit better.)

I'm still happy with my mattress after 10 years.

Well, I went to Macy's and JcPenney at the mall and no one was around to answer questions so I went to Sleep Outfitters. I bought a Sealy, firm, non pillow top mattress. The most expensive mattress I've ever bought but not nearly as expensive as most of the other mattresses they had. I also got a very basic adjustable base. I've always wanted one and will be nice to have when I read at night. Someone came in while we were doing the paperwork and said they had their Stearns and Foster for 20 years and it was time for a new one. Made me want to reconsider but I didn't. I've read a lot of bad reviews on all mattresses and including Stearns and Foster. Who knows what I'll get?

It does have a 10 year warranty and you can try it out for 120 days or some rediculous amount of time and swap if you're not happy. I'm just happy to get a new mattress, coming Tuesday!!

Yay! I think you will be happy with the Sealy. My DD has had one for about 5 years and has been happy with it. She bought one of the mattress in a box for DGD for her college apartment. DGD said it was ok (it is full size) but DD slept on it one night and said it was a rock.

DGD is now moving to a different city and plans to sell it, so has been shopping for a grown-up mattress. I believe she liked the Sealy also.

UGH!! Mattress shopping. My issue was the "the dip" too. I bought a nice Beauty Rest, probably middle of the road in terms of price from Macys and it ended up dipping within a year...I was able to exchange it. I got a higher end Beauty Rest, Beauty Rest Black but it's already feeling "dippish" I'm thinking I should have gone firmer...but I'm a side sleeper and a softer mattress is recommended for side sleepers.

I think I'd opt for a firm mattress and add a topper next time.

Our mattress is two twins size to make a king size bed. We bought some Ikea curved slats and that seems to take care of the dip. We've had this set up for about 4 years now with no problem. Good luck with your new mattress!
