If you were on a budget, what brand of appliances would you get?
Comments (5)No, no, no. You don't need to buy the same brand. Most of us on this forum buy different brands - pick appliances that look good together. Even if you get the same brand, the stainless steel may not match. By the way, the Kenmore brand is not really one brand. Sears gets appliances from different manufacturers and slaps the Kenmore label on them. No one manufacturer does well on all appliances. Search this forum for recommendations for specific appliances....See Morerethinking budget, what would you do?
Comments (19)again - how much $$$ are you looking to cut ??? It's very difficult to advise someone when you don't know what they are looking for. DO you need to save $500? $800 ? $5000 ? It makes a big difference. "because i read bad reviews about their other products before and i was not interested in their refrigerators after thatâ¦." You'd better cross Sub Zero off your list then too. They have bad reviews too. Ditto with Wolf. Same with BlueStar...... .....and Miele. You'd better just build in a fireplace in your kitchen and get on a perpetual ice run because EVERY SINGLE APPLIANCE CO. has bad reviews. Thermador's column refrigerators are arguably BETTER than Sub Zero's offering. SZ is almost 10 years late to the modular party with their columns that are just shipping now. BTW, I'm a SZ kinda person and have several. I'd stay away from Thermador's Ranges and Ovens, but their Fridges are just fine - even the regular built ins that are manuf. by a division of Whirlpool. Warming drawers are good too as are their dishwashers which are identical copies of Bosch units with a different silkscreen name. Customer service is more hit or miss - mainly miss should you need service. Especially compared to Wolf/SZ and Miele, but some people do just fine with them and there are unhappy folks with Miele and SZ too ! Comments (11)My plan would be: Declutter: Get rid of any non-essential bottles/boxes. Box them up and put them in the basement for now. Have one bar of soap on the shelf in reserve, not five. Have one bottle of cleaner on the shelf, not six. Create space. Create order. Create the illusion of minimum maintenance. In the shower, one bottle of shampoo. One brand new bar of soap. Clean: Everything. Spend time on the tub. Clean the grout. Remove old caulk and replace with new. New shower curtain / liner. Patch/Repair: Dings, dents. Sand, smooth, wood putty as needed. Clean up whatever hole that is under the television, make it look nicer than it does in the photo. Hide the wires. Reduce clutter. Paint: I'd brighten the painted surfaces with semi-gloss white or off-white. I'd consider painting the brown wood white/off-white as well. Shelving, storage, mirror frame. Brighten the space up. Paint the baseboard heater grate. Can't tell what shape the vanity is in. Lighting: This can be tricky, but at least buy a 5000k LED daylight bulb and install it in the bathroom lighting fixture. I was just at Walmart last week for something else and saw they had 4-packs of 60W equivalent LED 5000k daylight bulbs for about $7. It'll show the room as whiter/brighter versus the yellowish warmer cast of the typical 2700k bulb. If it looks wrong; too white, too stark, then put the 2700k bulb back in the socket. Put a curtain on the window, or at least a valance to cover the roll portion of the roll-up shade. Replace the dark floor rug with a new white one. Put the toilet seat down....See MoreCurb Appeal on a Budget? What would you do?
Comments (8)It’s hard to see the cedar in the photos due to the existing plants. Personally I like the natural stained cedar as it doesn’t require painting every few years. For landscape, check out homes with landscaping you like. Take photos to a local garden center (not a big box store) and ask what they’d recommend. Your neighbors may also be willing to share plant divisions for free. My neighbors outshot Boston have shared many plants with me over the years. Foundation shrubs are really good to plant in the fall as the temps are lower. I don’t have Texas garden experience so I recommend finding local people for advice. Your existing shrubs may just need pruning rather than removal. Good luck and keep us posted....See Moreci_lantro
