U-shaped or L-shaped layout? pic included
Comments (7)Mary, my kitchen configuration is very similar to the U-shaped one you are considering including placement of the eating area as well as the family room (although our family room is sunken and you have an extra doorway next to your family room). Our dining room used to be in the same location as yours is but we made the dining room into a walk-in pantry with a built-in pantry next to it (then moved the dining room to the former living room that had been adjoining the old dining room). With our recent remodel (last summer), we considered changing from the U to an island, very much like your current one. Mine is pretty much a one cook kitchen and the times there is more than one cook, we don't seem to have any problems. IMO, the biggest drawback to a U-shape is the two corner cabinets but I've learned to live with them. With so much extra storage with the walk-in pantry I don't have to have the corner cabs crammed full so that certainly helps. I love my peninsula--I like overlooking the family room, have a good view of the big TV if I want to watch while cooking/baking, have a nice view of outside through the windows in the eating area and like the close proximity to the sink. Like you, I wouldn't have had room in the island for a prep sink so for those main reasons we nixed the island idea and kept the same footprint. We have a pretty big kitchen table and chair set and although we too would've liked to have had an overhang on the peninsula for an eating area, we definitely don't have room. Maybe your eating area is bigger. If you're interested, I have some photos on Shutterfly as well that you can look at. Comments (2)It looks like the main criteria in a new leather sofa chaise you are looking for are: Sofa with chaise True 8- way hand tied construction Solid Hardwood frame Down feathers Dimensions that fit your space Real top grain cowhide leather Two manufactures come to mind right away as I read your post for American made and one for imported like RH. For American made I would look at Leathercraft or McKinley Leather. Both are made in North Carolina and both will do any custom work you need. Palatial Furniture would be a source for an Imported frame. They also meet all your criteria but instead of a 4-6 week delivery time you will be waiting about 3 months. Palatial will price the lowest because it is imported. There are many other lines out there that have some of your criteria, but not all. The three I have mentioned have all the things you are looking for....See MoreL-shaped or normal sofa pls help!
Comments (5)As the space is so limited I would suggest option b but I would also remove the chair as it really reduces the space. Comments (3)Looks like your sofa has a reversible chaise, so you'll be able to play with the layout more easily. If the view is nothing to die for, you could turn the back of the sofa to it but you'd need a glare free TV on the wall opposite the window if you watch much in the daytime. Placing the TV perp to the windows and the sofa facing it might be better and could allow for a chair in the corner right or left of the TV....See MorePaula D.
