All too often, the shaft has wear in it from the old seal rubbing on it. In addition, there is play in both the front and rear bearings. Combined, the pump leaks no matter what you do. The pumps will interchange if the year is close. Both tractors use the same GPM rating but Case used pumps from different manufacturers in different years. In some models, the suction line was a hose that went from the pump to the reservoir but in other years, a steel line was used with very short hose sections on the ends to make the joints. Therefore, some pumps had threaded inlet ports designed to take O-ring fittings while others had a hard, curved pipe swaged into the casting. Of course, you can change the supply lines or fittings to make another pump work. Case tractors don't use "hydraulic oil", they use "motor oil". Yes, you can use a straight grade 30 weight oil but 20W40 or 20W50 are often used in predominatly warm climates and 15W30 when the temps fall below freezing. Shell's Rotella T or a direct equivalent is the oil of choice. And no, there is nothing that you should adjust. Relief pressures were set at the factory and should not be altered, especially by persons who have no hydraulic background or the tools to carry out this work properly. The reason your pump leaks under load is simple. When the tractor is started, all the pump is doing is to circulate the oil through the system. Pressure is minimal because there is no restriction. Once you begin to operate either the loader or the hoe, system pressures rise rapidly. If you bottom out a cylinder, then you will hear the relief valve squeal and that means the pump is now putting out 2100 PSI. Either buy a new pump from an aftermarket seller such as Grainger or get a good used pump from another Case tractor. Any 200, 400 or 600 series tractor can be a donor.

I erroneously thought that some of the fuel pumps worked off pulsed compression, no reason they couldn't, but apparently all used on small gasoline engines operate off pulsed vacuum. Note: If it was a constant vacuum they would not work because the interruption in the vacuum is what makes it pump. From a B&S service manual we learn the following: "The fuel pump will prime at 30.5 cm (12") maximum lift. Fuel pump pressure is 0.1 kg cm/sq (1.5 psi). The pump is operated by pulsed crankcase vacuum." NOTE: "THE FUEL PUMP PRESSURE MUST NOT EXCEED 1.5 PSI." On this particular engine the pulsed vacuum line is connected to the valve cover.

There are two sizes of the FS canning jar attachments. One is meant for regular mouth canning jars, and the other is for the larger mouth canning jars. Yes, they use the exact same lids used in home canning. The lids are placed on top of the jar, and the attachment is pushed down over it to make a seal between a rubber ring and the glass bead just below the threads of the jars. Once air is pulled out, and you pull off the vacuum hose from the attachment, a tiny 'slug' of air, blasts into the small vacuum hole and the lid is forced down onto the jar and seals it. You remove the attachement then and rinse off the jar if its wet. The seal is very strong and is usually far better than a regular canning process would do. As mentoned, The FS vacuum pump is NOT powerful enough to be safely used as an alternative to regular canning processing. Besides that, if the very small vacuum pump inside the FS gets any trace of moisture in it, it can cause damage to the FS machine. I use a much higher powered piston type vacuum pump and also have a water/moisture trap on the vacuum line. The pump I have quickly goes down to 30 inches, which is sufficient for a decent vacuum. I also vacuum seal dried herbs like dill weed. It remains very fragrent and bright green color, even after 2 years of storage.

We actually have two of these models, the other is now 7 years old at another house we own. We have always had good luck with KA appliances. Even after our bad experience with this one, we likely would have replaced it with another KA. Before this dishwasher we had an older Bosch that didn’t dry well (no heating element). My wife really likes this dishwasher. It cleans and dries well and holds a lot of dishes. We really didn’t want to replace it. Thanks also to everyone on this forum who posted pictures and comments. They were all very helpful. Forgot to mention the most important thing. Before attempting any appliance repair, be sure to get permission from your significant other! Mine couldn’t be happier.
