What to put on the mantel

DH and I rarely agree on a piece of art - this one hit the mark for both of us. Because of the ledges on the fireplace, we can’t hang this right above the mantel. Ideas what (if anything) we can put on the mantle? The FP is 15’ to ceiling. Our style leans modern, clean, minimalist…

The art is beautiful and so is the fireplace. Nothing more is needed.

I would layer a couple more pieces of modern art on mantle with a beautiful modern vase.

Thank you again for the comments and special thanks to Nosoccermom for the photos. Unfortunately, we are stuck with the tv over the mantel for now. Again, not what I would have chosen, however, it's how the house is wired and DH likes it. As for moving it down, again, we're stuck with it at its current height due to where the electrician placed the boxes. I would have preferred it lower. I agree that no matter what is put on the mantel, it will not disguise the fact that there is a big black screen hanging on the wall.

Thanks for the feedback! Very helpful. I definitely agree about the pile of pillows, hoping to get rid of them soon...I just have them there to protect my clumsy toddler from the bricks. And I didn't even think about the screen (this is the one that was here when we moved in a couple years ago).

I would paint out the fireplace "hole" black, and paint your cabinet the same color so they visually disappear - do the same with the shelves. Lean a large painting on the mantle, centering it. Add pottery on the shelves - large pieces with similar colors (one per shelf if possible) to make a statement and reduce visual clutter. Take everything else off the mantel, and then post another picture to see if more if needed.

I love the art you chose, it's perfect for there!

I'd probably look for a set of dark colored vases (charcoal or brown?), something like this:

Nothing on the mantle and possibly a large piece on the hearth. If you are minimalist pieces on the mantle will look like clutter

Thank you everyone for all your great ideas (including nothing!) The stuff on the hearth is gone (really just somewhere to put them while I decided on ???) I like the blue acrylic items and the vases - If anything goes there, yes, something sort of tall. I really appreciate the time you took to respond!!!
