Need help with furniture selection.
Comments (12)You haven't posted any pics of your room or the furniture you're talking about, so this is just one more kind-of-guessing opinion. IMO, though, a brown leather sofa is a classic piece in a neutral color. I like that, and the leather is practical, too. Khaki is also a neutral color and would work well with the leather sofa and is a practical color for upholstered seating, as well. My only concern is a possible clash with the wall color. Will they work well together? Is repainting the room an option? White chairs will add a lot more contrast to the room, but how will they stand up to the use they'll get? Do you have dogs or kids that might make the white impractical in the long term? How will you use them yourselves? On an everyday basis, white may quickly become dirty . . . or it may not, depending on the usage. With the khaki colored chairs, you can easily add color, pattern and contrast with accessories, art work, throw pillow, rugs, lamps, etc. I always like to add black as well as a color to a room with brown furniture. My own family room has a brown leather sofa, along with one matching brown leather chair and one dark green leather and wood recliner. I had no problem adding color, contrast and texture in there and it looks anything but dull,IMO. You can add color the same way with the white chairs, too, but are you ready for that much contrast? Again, it's just my opinion, but I think you'll need to add a lot more white to the room to balance out the two white chairs with the brown sofa and tan(khaki?) walls. I think that it could be done, and done very well, if you put your mind to it . . . and if you want that dark/white contrast. It's totally what makes you personally happiest. Anyhoo, just a few more things to think about before you buy. The bottom line as I see it is finding good comfortable, practical chairs. In the end, what you're really going to appreciate is that your chairs are actually very comfortable and enjoyable to sit in and that they're made well to last. Comments (6)These were my final recommendations, including the lamp you recommended @havingfun. So, we will see what he ultimately decides. The couch we’d already purchased and the tv stand, we liked so much, he bought it today. The mid-century coffee table for the clean lines, the color that ties in with his bar without being too matchy and the style fits in with the mid century design we did in his bedroom. This very beautifully patterned rug which had hints of gray to hide the dogs hair when it’s shedding. I also think it’s a nice pattern to anchor the space. The livingroom, kitchen and dining space are all open to each other. Chose this dining table and dining chairs because I like that it has the wood at the base without being too much wood. I thought this was important because it will be right next to the bar. Also, like the plastic surfaces as they need to function as a painting/art space for his 6 year old daughter. Oh! And teal is his favorite color. Fabric barstools to add some warmth to the kitchen/dining area that is not more wood. For accessories, I recommended @havingfuns lamp in gold. Everything else including greenery, throw pillows and drapes, I plan to get locally. He already owns lots of awesome art and nicknacks to decorate as well....See MoreFurniture arrangement/selection help needed
Comments (7)Where do the doors flanking the fireplace go? Do you entertain guests in this space and what is the maximum number you need to seat here? Is TV watching the main activity here, and do you watch when you have guests? If TV fits in that cabinet, it will probably fit on that wall, mounted on an articulated arm so it is adjustable for viewing. Do you enjoy board games? Since the fireplace doesn't get used, you might try something like this there with a table large enough for scrabble, chess, checkers, or just drinks. The right style of lightweight chairs could be pulled into a conversational grouping elsewhere in the room when needed....See MoreHelp with furniture selection.
Comments (1)keep in mind, that light fixture can be replaced and also moved or swagged over to make a new "center" of the room. a solid table with light chairs would be better....See MoreRachel Lee
