I cross posted this on Organic Gardening, still waiting for help over there, but..... Does anyone know what's going on with these pattypan squash leaves? The zucchini on the right is fine, but the pattypan on the left is yellowing, with spots. And it seems to be spreading to each leaf, one by one. I don't see any bugs on it, and it's had all the same growing conditions as the zucchini, including organic fertilizing, etc. But it's looking quite different. Is this a normal color variation? I've never grown pattypan before and I only planted one seed as an experiment to see if I like it. If it's a problem, what should I do? Thanks for the input.

None of the bacterial and fungal diseases of Magnolias are considered serious and no remedies are recommended, other than collecting and disposing of the fallen leaves to prevent reinfection. Overwatering can promote the growth of these pathogens. Planting near the foundation of the structure may subject the tree to lime that leaches from concrete and mortar. Magnolias are somewhat intolerant of alkaline soil, which prevents the uptake of necessary micronutrients, and may develop chlorosis (yellowing leaves with green veins). Add elemental Sulphur (4 Tbls/sq. ft.) to lower the pH. Be sure that any mulch placed around the tree is dry and fresh smelling, not "sour", which harbors toxins. Keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk and limit the thickness to a few inches to allow oxygen to reach the tree roots. Good luck! Rb

It's time to get them out of those Dixie cups and into the garden. They have run out of room in that small amount of "soil" and are unable to uptake sufficient nutrients. With plants that large, in that small of space, it is difficult to maintain proper watering. They are begging to be set free.

Have no fear the mite is in Georgia and the Carolinas. I'm sad to say the wind will bring it in sooner or later. There are established species roses in Florida they include the Cherokee Rose, Macartney Rose, multiflora and arkansana. RRD is a disease introduced by humans in an effort to kill off invasive multiflora. Unfortunately for us the mites that pick up the virus are not partial to multiflora there is just so much of it that it serves as a reservoir for mites to feed on. I sort of suspect it's already in northern Florida.
