Our recommendations for light sizing are based around the width of the island. I assume that is the 66" measurement, so we take 66 and subtract 12. That's 54, a good maximum light size per pendant. I don't know what sizes are available for the pendants, but you could certainly go towards the larger side (that's the trend right now, too--larger pendants). For finish, since you said you have silver handles, you could look towards the nickel family. Or you could also consider bronze! Since your island is almost 8 feet long, you could conceivably get 2 or 3 pendants. As for a light over your dining table, here are some potential ideas... If you need to expand the size of your table several times each year, keep looking for one that both expands as much as you need and that suits your taste. If you entertain even if it is just family several times each year, plan ahead how the table you choose will work -- or how a second table might fit in the room. Another thought: A "heavy" table in a relatively small room has some potential to visually shrink the room. What other pieces (buffet or china cabinet) can make a difference on whether or not any table "works" well, too. If the ends of a pair of tables you choose are the same height and squared, putting two tables together could work.

Are you going to have bar stools? How wide from the outside wall to the island is the area? How does a square table extend to become circular???

If you post pictures of the room and any adjacent rooms you will probably get better advice. Since you're going to be remodeling your kitchen, an inspiration photo showing approximately the look you're going for would help. What is leading you to buy a new table before doing the kitchen?
