Design Ideas and Pictures of Mantel for a Ledgestone Fireplace
Comments (0)Hi! Next week we are having our fireplace wall redone with a ledgestone stone veneer with shelves being built on either side of the fireplace. I would love some suggestions and photos of types of shelve mantels that will look nice with the stone. We have brown leather furniture. Also suggestions for what wood would look good. Thanks for any pics that would give me ideas....See MoreFireplace Mantel Help!
Comments (2)Sounds very familiar. We did the same recessed paneling, crown molding, self designed thing, although the carpenter who was building out the wall built it. I agree with ventupete. Do a mock up. Generally speaking, the fireplaces that I find most attractive have the top plate no narrower (top to bottom) than the legs are wide. Same with the surround. Two suggestions. Think hard about the size of the crown molding you will use. We used the molding we used on the wall. I thought it would tie it together. I now believe it is too large for the overall size of the fireplace. Second, I wish we had run a bead across the bottom of the top plate and continuing across the legs, as is usually done with the panelled approach. I thought I was being cool. I now think it looks slightly unbalanced and unfinished. If it sounds as if I don't like what we have, that's not true, but it could have been better. Good luck...See MoreDesigning a fireplace mantel....ideas?
Comments (33)Is this like a personality test? :) Depends on the style of the house! But since you asked for opinions of which ones we liked... for pure style I like #4. The wood is gorgeous and the curve softens the lines of an otherwise box-like structure. Not sure how it would look in your house with your marble and paint/floor colors you've described, but it would look ok at my place. lol!...See MoreFireplace mantel is lacking. Help please!
Comments (10)I think a mirror would look good, but I think you also need to address what is on the mantel shelf as well. One of my favorite designers is Laurel Bern and she's written some good posts on mantel styling which might help you, https://laurelberninteriors.com/2017/10/25/fireplace-mantel-styling/ https://laurelberninteriors.com/2016/01/09/fireplace-mantel-decor/ https://laurelberninteriors.com/2014/02/04/20-great-fireplace-mantel-decorating-ideas/ BUT... before you buy or add anything to the fireplace area, you might want to think about the room as a whole. You've got a lot of different and not entirely compatible textures, colors and warm/cool hues going on in the room, between the flooring, carpet, wall color, hearth ledge, brick, etc. And the mantel shelf isn't really a mantel. Are you planning on staying in this house for a while? Is it worthwhile to you to make anything more than cosmetic changes to the mantel area?...See Moreeld6161
