Replacing plants in a garden bed

The liriope got too overgrown and ratty in this east facing zone 10a garden bed. It’s half dug out now. I could replant sprigs of liriope but I prefer the false heather you can see to the left. However—Both like water, so now I‘m thinking of raphiolepis\indian hawthorne or one of those low growing plants that look like bottlebrush (seen in commercial parking lots). I want an attractive lower growing shrub to take the place of the liriope. Any suggestions?
