Pottery Barn Fabric Selection

Ordered couches 8 months ago from Crate & Barrel but one was damaged in transit so instead of waiting for a replacement to be made and a further wait I was allowed to cancel order.

I’m now looking to order Big Sur from PB. I’m indecisive at best of times but trying to select a fabric is stressful especially after reading lots of varying reviews albeit some are old. I’m down to three fabrics and I’d appreciate some recent experience from customers who have either of these fabrics or can suggest an alternative white/neutral. The 3 I’ve whittled it down to are Performance Twill in Warm White, Sunbrella Performance Chenille in Salt and Performance Heathered Tweed in Ivory.

I don’t have young kids, dogs generally stay off furniture and couches will be sat on only every other day.

Thanks for any info/advice you can share.

I was reading some threads (on here) last night that were talking a lot about pilling and fabric, which once to choose. I'll see if I can find it, but feel free to poke around to see if you can find it. I think I remembering hearing common complaints about pilling and twill, and hearing some good things about everyday suede. How do you feel your sofa has held up? I know it's pilling, but otherwise? I'm thinking of getting a Pearce sectional for my family. We're not hard on our furniture, but still spending $4k is a big investment for us.

I am wondering if you went ahead and got the sofa wiht the basketweave slub oatmeal, and if so, how has it held up in terms of fabric quality and stains? I really like the look of this fabric more than any of the others but am concerned about the lower fabric grade compared to the performance fabrics. If you used it, it would be super helpful to get your thoughts. Thanks!

An interesting question I wish I could help with. I loved my kitties totally but I do not miss my ruined furniture now that the cats are gone. Can you get a large piece of each fabric and put it taut on something and place it where the cats like to scratch and see what happens? You may already have this, but the only thing that deterred my cats from scathing was putting large carpeted cat trees at the corners of furniture that were fav scratch spots. Sure looked goofy, but it really gave them a better alternative and saved what was left of my good fabric. When the last kitty died of old age, I had a kitty garage sale and gave them all away. Good luck on this effort!

II agree, can't go wrong with leather. Just make sure it's not bonded leather. We have PB performance "suede" and love it, probably not for kids tho. I would trust their performance fabrics. I don't know anything about slipcovers. I found this quote on woodstockoutlet.com If durability and luxurious feel is most important to you, consider something made with a premium full grain leather. For the most affordable real leather upholstery on the market, a pigmented or protected split leather may be the answer. However, for the best compromise of durability, style and affordability, you may want to consider a high quality top grain leather.
