Ok, here is the 'Green Soapstone' Granite I am looking at--Pics
Comments (15)This is exactly what I think it is--serpentine. Yes, they do call it a granite--again, artistic license as I've learned about this industry now. So, it's not a soapstone OR a granite but they call it a "green soapstone granite". I purposely didn't pick marble (even though I LOVE it) because I knew how messy my two boys and I are, and thought we would ruin it in no time (also because I am going with a bit more rustic of a look and can't use white marble). It is gorgeous. However, I a tempted to just to the verde tunas granite (polished) which might be a nice contrast to my matte slate floor and matte stone wall. Also, I know exactly what I am getting. I am afraid with the serpentine I would stain it or etch it if it's like a marble. I have hounded the granite people (IMC-a HUGE granite yard)about this and they also have it in a leathered finish and then this honed finish. Verde Tunas isn't my dream granite or anything but it's calm enough (reads like a solid color and won't compete with what I've got going on) that it might "go the best". Everybody says how gorgeous this is, yet no one has picked it for their kitchen. That being said, I am wondering if there are a lot of people who do actually have this "green soapstone" granite that think they have soapstone (though you couldn't oil it)???...See MoreI feel like I am in a really really bad dream with this new format!
Comments (4)Thanks for that, Jasdip! I somehow figured that out right around the time I posted here last nite. I posted it over on my usual RMG forum so the folks over there can reclaim their "real" names too! But I also agree with Brandon about the graphics! And without the “subject” at the top of each reply, it’s difficult, at best, to quickly scroll down a thread and see the “individual” replies—they all just kind of “blend together!” (And in the past I used to sometimes have several threads open at the same time in different windows, and now, without the subject by each reply, the only way for me to figure out which thread I’m looking at is to scroll all the way up to the top of the window to look at the subject.) And ditto on the fact that you can no longer tell which threads you’ve already read! The “subject” used to “change color” after you had clicked on a thread, so you could easily “check in” and see if there had been any NEW posts since the last time you looked! Now you need to either click on the top thread and actually take the time to look at the last reply, or, I guess, you need to try to remember which thread was on top and “how many hours ago” the most recent post was! Say what? There’s no way I’m gonna remember “how many hours ago” the last post was—and, in any event, that CHANGES! It used to give the actual time (EST) when someone posted or replied, and that I could remember. More importantly, it gave the “number of replies” by each post, and that was fairly easy to remember for the most recent post, but since the “subject” changed color, you really didn’t even need to try to remember that—unless you had deleted your cookies! I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s just a lot harder to work with now—and takes a lot longer to try to see what you want to see. That, and a lot of other things, especially the fact that some old, long posts, that had a LOT of good info, are suddenly truncated, and all that good (and it took people a lot of time and effort to post it) info is now just GONE! I have a lot of good friends on GW, and I REALLY want it to go on—forever, but the more difficult and time consuming it becomes to use, I suspect more and more people will slowly disappear. That would be sad! Skybird...See MoreFall renovation (ok, ok... really just a brag post)
Comments (12)As far as feeding, my maintenance plan is very simple (maybe too simple?) - OceanGro (my local version of Milorganite) all year, finishing with a synthetic winterizer. Plus whatever Morpheus tells me to do after reading my Logan Labs soil test. This fall I’ve been applying Potassium Sulfate which will continue into spring. I’ve used the Winter Survival but am not brand loyal with synthetics, so it varies year to year which one I actually use. I’ve used Mag-I-cal, but only when soil tests indicated it was needed. Other than that I just use a variety of pre and post emergents for weeds control....See MoreOk, I really felt like baking this morning
Comments (20)I also love to bake and cook, mostly since 2016 when our housekeeper /cook retired. I made a double crust chicken pie last night from an ATK recipe. I also cooked fresh cherries down with almond extract, lemon juice and zest and sugar, trying to make a preserve or confit. I didn’t have the patience to cook the cherries as long as they needed so I refrigerated them overnight and this morning made cherry garcia ice cream with those cherries, a dash of Kir and chunks of bittersweet chocolate. My mom is here and she loves sweets! I will have one big spoonful and leave the rest to her and the guys 😎...See MoreKswl
