something weird has happened to my top soil
Comments (3)We've been using a lawn care company the last couple of years, to get a better looking lawn. lol! They do 5 applications throughout the season, and although I don't know off hand what they applied, I am positive they fertilized in March or April and applied some grub control later in the year, as well as a weed preventative same time as fertilizer and again sometime during the summer. I don't water regularly, it is a pretty big yard. I water if they applied something that required it ( if it didn't rain) and if there is a period of heat with no rain. We used to mow it about 3" but last year kept it a bit shorter, 2" maybe. Sorry I have no idea what kind of grass or mixture it is. The worst damage seems to be under or very near to the base of bushes, like my lilacs and rose of sharon as well as around the boxwoods. also, the edges closest to a stone foundation....See MoreSomething happened again
Comments (8)I have 3 17W flouro's on a 28 by 18 inch shelf. I keep the Av's near the middle, and because I have cacti seedlings, I have kept the light only about 3 inches above the plants, last night I raised the lights so they are about 12 inches up now. If this is damage from too much light, how long before I will see the effects of less light. I would like to determine that it inst mites, and I am almost sure it inst, because the av's on the east window are doing well as far as I can tell. They are not tight in the centers at all, they have been around the other plants on the ledge in the past, but because hey are large, they couldn't fit under the lights, being they were only 4 inches up. So I am thinking my AV damage is from too much light. What do you think?? tracy...See Moresomething wonderfully weird happened...
Comments (7)I to drove back to my old house in the old neighborhood. As I made the turn onto my street a drug dealer shouted ..Hay Man ... HAY I'v got what you want ... and held up his hand in a fist clutching a hand full of drugs. I ignored him and continued down the street to my old house. I spotted the old green carpeting rolled up and put on the curb for the trash man to take. I pulled in the drive, just over the side walk, to think about some nice old times, when the front door opened very slowly.... a young kid looked out and said, hay ... what you want....I said with smile and a pleasent voice, "I used to live here." The young man, pearing through the crack in the door said... SO WHAT....That's about what I was thinking right about now. I asked what happened to the house next door.. (the Phalens house) It was loaded with kids when I was young. I was an only child so I had lots of good friends next door.... "Oh that house" the boy replied... "well they had some bad peoples living there and the landloard tossed them out.... so the peoples that lived there trashed the house." Oh my what a mess that was, boared up windows and all. Who ever they were, they new how to trash a house. When I was growing up I always wanted the neighborhood to be nice, so I could come back and visit with old friends and neighbors, pet with the old dog next door and see the old lady who only gave us kids apples for Holloween. Oh well... that's life...........I'm glad I don't live there any more. Thanks for reading this....I feel a little better now.... (I think) Scott...See MorePassion fruit::: somethings happening
Comments (2)Slugs rule Nassau and Suffolk nightlife. Go out with a flashlight and you are sure to find them snacking on some Dominican passion leaves lol. The bug pictured looks like a big lady bug which should actually protect the plant. You need to find a way to have that plant run more and it will fruit this summer. I gifted that plant to my buddy in Queens and his has taken over his back fence, you would be amazed to see it. If you believe it's some pest other than slugs then just spray the leaves with soap water at sundown....See MoreJP FLOORING SOLUTIONS
