Help! Need help choosing trim color for yellow brick home!

Hi! I am having the worst time trying to find a trim color for this yellow brick! We just got the house and need to put on a new roof as well. I want to get a plan together before putting on the wrong roof color! I was at first thinking a cream, but now I think a darker charcoal may be nice from looking at other pics. We will be removing the box scrubs as well as they cover the lower part of the windows. When we put the roof on, new gutters will be done as well. Should those match to the trim color? Thanks for all the help and advice!

Try to pick shingles, that are more solid color, than variegated, so there is no clash with the pattern of the roof and the pattern of the brick. I also totally agree with your husband. A house with painted brick, wouldnt even get me inside, if I were looking for a house, and one was for sale. The one in the pictures above, was far more elegant looking with the brick color than that boring all over white. There are times, it may be necessary to paint over brick, for some reason or another, but, most people want brick for low maintenance.

If the roof is too dark the house will look top heavy. When you're looking at pictures to try to determine which color you want are you looking at pictures of one story homes with hip roofs? The amount of roof area in proportion to the exterior wall area is important. Your house has a lot of roof visible relative to the size of the house. It would be helpful if we could see a closer up picture of the brick. It looks like the current roof is too brown. So I would lean more gray, but you don't want a cool blue-gray. You want a brown-gray (taupe). If you have chosen a manufacturer for the shingles and post a picture of the sample board you will get more specific advice. Gutters are not meant to be a feature, so they should be as close to the color of the house as you can get so they blend in.

@leelee, LOL, yes the red/orange color is the color I'd be covering up. :) @celerygirl, thank you for doing that! That was really helpful and took your tip and tried this on the BM site as well! I am agreeing with you all that the lighter neutral color would work best. Here are the colors I've narrowed it down to that look good with BM Gray Mirage: BM 2146-60 November Rain BM HC-80 Bleeker Beige BM HC-173 Edgecomb Gray SW 7738 Cargo Pants (will need to compare the paint chip to BM Gray Mirage to be sure but looks good from what I can tell) If you have any thoughts on these 3 colors (or any others), I would love to hear them since I am absolutely horrible at picking out colors and have made some costly and timely mistakes in the past. If anyone can help I would be grateful! I really need to make a decision this weekend if possible. I know I need to do samples but would appreciate any direction on which SW whites to look at. I want it to be soft and warm/inviting and wouldn't even mind a cream if I can find on that still looks like a creamy white rather than yellow. Thoughts? Would SW Creamy work or go too yellow?

Select your colors from you tile....lightest tone for trim, and the next darkest for walls. If these is a paint consultant for hire in your area that might be a good investment as paint can drive you crazy.....also a good paint contractor has seen it all and can give you some pointers too....but a designer might be your best bet.

What is missing from you house is foundation plantings. Get a plan together an plant in the fall after the heat wave is over. Plant far enough away from the foundation to allow the plants to mature. Paint the secondary door the same dark brown. There is so little trim showing, I would leave it brown along the roofline. I would leave the brick wall directly in front of the empty. It will give it more emphasis, But plant some low growing bushes along the walkway. Next year, in early spring add annuals for long lasting color. Can you paint the window frames and the frame around the door? If yes, the I would paint that trim a creamy off white, a really pale tan. Or if the windows are an tan color you can match that and paint the brown trim I think I see around the windows. They will show better. The two small windows could use shutters - one half the size of the window. Paint them a gray blue or black. Paint the front door the same blue.

Yes paint the brick so you will instantly devalue your home , great idea not.

BTW gutters are not trim and should match the roof usually so they do not stand out. As for trim color to me right now the roof looks red and for sure does not work with the brick I think a lighter shade of taupey/ brown for the roof will help you decide on trim color maybe a nice bronze shade for trim would be nice .Then some more interesting landscaping IMO

I like the blue-gray roof (the person who wrote earlier said don't use this but didn't explain why) and the dark blue-gray color of the sliding door frame for the trim.

Any dark earth tone would work with both the brick and your roof. I'd probably go with a terracotta color.

Lovely home! I agree with your husband...don’t paint the brick. I love gray roofs in many cases, but I think kandrewspa’s suggestion of brown/gray or Beverly’s Weathered Wood would work. Be cautious of roof shingles with too much variegation since it can be too busy with the brick.

Good point from kandrewspa regarding the amount of roof showing vs the rest of the house. A dark roof could pull a lot of focus.

Have the yellow brick cleaned before finalizing trim paint choices. It may be lighter and brighter after cleaning.

Hey guys! Here are the two top roof choices. The roofer uses Owens Corning Oakridge. These are Driftwood and Teak. Teak is the one on the left (darker one) and the Driftwood is the lighter. Thanks everyone!!
