Should I stain/paint the wood supporting my TREX deck?

HU-467821532
last year

I have an upper level TREX Select deck with open space and a patio below it at the ground level. Water runs through the gaps in the TREX planks and down the sides of the wood planks on the underside of the deck. I have always thought that wood needed to be protected and now I am wondering if the boards that support the TREX planks should be stained/painted? I don't want the underneath of the deck to rot.

I don't know if the supporting wood members are pressure treated or not. The clilmate is very hot and dry in the summer and sub-zero and snowy in the winter. Clearly, it would look better, but I don't know if it would cause some other problem I'm not smart enough to know about. Thanks for your time and input.
