Pocket door end of hallway

HU-548469922
last year

Hello. Rookie here. I've been reading all sorts of (seemingly conflicting) information regarding the minimum width necessary for a pocket door at the end of a hallway. Not the minimum rough-in opening but the actual hallway. It seems like many of the different answers come down to preference--casing width, reveal width, wallboard thickness, etc.

So I'm hoping I can phrase this question (given I'm a rookie) in a way that eliminates those variables. If you have a 32" pocket door (recognizing that it's a pocket door might not even affect the answer) at the end of a hallway, use standard 2 1/4" casing with minimum reveal (noting if there is a minimum), and have 1/2" wallboard, what is the minimum width the hallway can be stud to stud (before wallboard/drywall)? I'm expecting the answer to be somewhere around 38-40 inches, but won't be surprised if that's wrong. Thanks in advance.
