Please recommend you 36" induction cooktop

Hello,

We know we are ready to transition from a gas stove top to induction. We love to cook .and need something durable. We are willing to invest in a high-end product. Please share any positive experiences or challenging ones.

We use a ca. 2015 Frigidaire "Gallery." It fit the cut-out for our previous Kenmore induction ca. 2007 model, as did the other Electrolux manufactured brands. Cost-wise, this is a low-end product, but it works fine for its purpose and has so far for about 8 years. This brings its "rental cost" -- prorated price plus prorated extended warranty -- down to a little more than $200 per year. (Being laden with electronics, induction cooktops have inherently lower mean time to failure than other cooking methods, so repair/replacement risk needs to be addressed, including countertop fit of any replacement.)

I would prefer O instead of X hob marking, but otherwise have no complaints. Control is fairly intuitive. Take care to not walk away from any high-power-level cooking until you have experience with just how fast induction can heat a pot or pan. Kitchen timers can prove useful.

36-inch induction cooktops may require circuits nominally rated at 50A (usually AWG 6) to conform to various National Electrical Code requirements.

We put a Bosch 800 series induction cooktop in our last kitchen, and when we built this place, saw no reason to go with anything else. It just works. We both love it.

Another vote for Kobe 720 CFM. Quiet, powerful, baffles, easy to clean. Also used ventingdirect.com. Never saw a Kobe hood in person before ordering, just went on GW recs. If you can fit in a 42" hood in your design, you will get better capture, but not essential. They have lots of nice designs. I'm very happy with the finish. Kobe Customer Service was extremely responsive and helpful when I called them after I got too enthusiastic about cleaning it and took it apart too far. So I can also say, "easy to reassemble!"

Thanks for the quick reply dlspellman! I have two questions for you about the GE since we won't be able to actually see one, let alone try it out. Does the GE Profile "hum" loudly on high or at all on low? We had a chance to try out the KA at the dealer and were impressed that it made so little noise (we tried out the Miele and it was loud). Also, with the KA we noticed a "ring" of bubbles (like a donut) - which we believe are the magnetic coils - when the water is heating up. Does this happen with the Profile? We are concerned with even heating on the whole surface of the pan at low temperatures. Thanks again!

@aspen75, I have that same griddle that I use on mine. I understand and experience what you are saying and it is a bit of a disappointment. However, it has never hindered my cooking abilities on it. I mainly use my griddle for fish, shrimp, or pancakes (DH sometimes uses it for squash and zucchini) and because the heat ends up dispersing throughout the griddle, I never have issues with the food I cook. Sometimes I might have to move my fish or shrimp around as it cooks, but it still cooks. I'm still very pleased with my Wolf and so glad I went with it over gas, which we had before and which definitely had far worse hotspots. I have not tried a cast iron griddle on mine because I like the ease of cleaning the one I do have. Plus, I have a Blackstone on my patio just off my kitchen and I use it a ton in the spring, summer, and fall when I truly need a griddle ;)

@User Thanks for your feedback. I couldn't care less about the brand or getting a package, but I do want the highest quality appliances for my budget (which is fairly flexible, but not unlimited). Most of the other appliances I have chosen are Bosch, not out of a desire to match brands, but because of the performance/price ratio. I've settled on a Bosch refrigerator and separate refrigeration drawers (brand and model TBD) after scrapping plans for an integrated unit, based on much better cost/cubic feet of this set-up, as well as long-term maintenance and replacement cost. I am leaning towards the Thermador steam oven because of the large interior space. My close friend purchased hers 4 years ago and raves about it; I cook a lot and would use it daily. With the cost savings of the free dishwasher in the Thermador deal (which only requires buying the oven and cooktop), there is only $500 or so difference in price between the Thermador Liberty and the Bosch Flexinduction cooktop in my area. If the former has better features and/or functionality, that would be worth the upgrade for me. If not, I will consider the Flexinduction and other brands. I put a (refundable) deposit on the Wolf during the tax free event (14% in my area), so the price was expensive but not astronomical. I've never cooked a full meal with induction, which is why I was seeking feedback from others.

Wolf - the layout of the "burners" works for us, with the large one off to the side instead of in the middle somewhere. Good for stockpots/canners.

I have an LG induction range which chose because I wanted knobs to control the induction elements' power levels rather than touch controls. There aren't very many; the Frigidaire Professional FPIC3677RF is one. Note there is a control for each element, that the controls are arrayed across the cooktop in the order of the elements, and that there is a power-level indicator above each control. In contrast, some touch-control cooktops group the controls together in a corner and/or in some arrangement unrelated to the order of the elements. Some (e.g., Bosch) have a single power control for all elements. As mentioned above, O markings would be a better way to show the elements. My LG range unfortunately has X (but I noticed that a new range model will have O).
