IMO run the upper cabinets all across that space I think it looks like you ran out of cabinets . I don't ike all the booze onview but I fdo like glass doors with galssware behind them and even lighting inside . I see not point in a backspalsh since there is not sink there .

If you're going to tile that far up, it should be the full 18 inches, and hold the light fixtures out far enough that the tile could fit behind. The optimum would actually be to tile before the light fixtures go in, but from the sound of your post, that might not be an option. If necessary, and they're already installed, the tile can be cut around the fixtures.

I'm not in NYC, but when I hired my contractor to do the backsplash he gave me an estimate for removal of old tile, removal of countertops, and plumbing faucet hookup (after counters and sink are in) for the same price that the countertop installers were going to charge me to remove the countertops and hookup the plumbing. So I basically got the tile removal for free since I was planning on paying the installers for the other items. If your installers are charging you for these items separately it may be worth seeing if you can get a similar deal.

You already have a backsplash, the 4” piece of counter material is your backsplash. Don't try and put tile on unless you are removing that piece. It makes it look disconnected and disjointed. If you are removing that piece, none of the options, except maybe the tin/stainless look, would work with that counter.

you could also do a mirror or mirror tiles
