While I think that the "FAQ" as outlined by swanoir was presented tongue in cheek ('the humus'), many of the subsequent comments and/or links to threads that could/should be included in a FAQ were presented in a more serious tone. And maybe they do make sense as a foundation to a real LD forum FAQ. But I've also sensed something else in these comments that may contribute to the apparent lack of communication between new posters seeking advice and those that regularly frequent this forum and offer it. And that is that the long checklist provided by Miss R must be (or should be) answered in detail before posting. Well, of course not! But it is definitely something worth reviewing and giving some thought to. This checklist, or something very similar, is what most designers utilize when first meeting with a prospective client. It gives them a feeling for what the client wants to do with the property, how they intend to use it, what they hope to get out of it and how much effort (time/$$) are they are intending to put into it. Hopefully, reviewing an outline or checklist such as this could help to refine and focus some of those blank slate questions and even educate those new posters totally unfamiliar with the process the degree of complexity, the number of variables and exactly what is involved in the formulation of a landscape design. Even DIY landscape texts intended for the homeowner with no previous design or landscaping experience offer similar checklists to get one started thinking about the process. Obviously, this is overkill for those questions that are more issue-specific, but I think very appropriate for those that are much broader and far less focused.

Rosewitch, England was definitely one of my favorite places I have ever visited. My folks took me there when I was 14, and I remember bits and pieces the Crown jewels, walking amongst the Stonehenge stones (roped off now, vandalism), Stratford upon Avon. Time for me to take my own 14YO. Im trying to think how I can get over there for a whole summer, LOL. Dlynn, I could have worked so much more. I didnt really look at night time stuff and there was loads to do. Greece: cant help you, but shoot Yasou a line, she went a few years ago. LOL Annie! Teresa, well go together. I wanted to explore more cooking and food shops/stores but didnt get to. Terri, here is more a link to Pictures of England, a website pointed out to me by Denise. I started it on Bourton on the Water, where we stayed for a few days. Thanks Sharon, I was actually thinking how can I even come close to posting her quality of travel guides, I dont do the pictures she does LOL. We might have sat at the same table in the Cheshire Cheeses dining room! Sawdust still there, but we didnt make it to the cellar. I missed a lot of the British Museum. It has changed.check out the new atrium. I couldnt keep up with DH and DS16. Afternoons, when I planned museums, I crashed. Next time! Pam, lots of people did more than we did per day! Theater every night, more attractions, I cant imagine. Gina heh heh yeah I need another vacation like a hole in my head. Speaking of whichDH has another week off in August. Nooooooooo! Kathleen, DH says he took an average of 200 pictures a day. Yup. Me, I just buy the post cards or Google the images, same thing (DARFC from the photo bugs here) Cathy, thanks for giving me the War and Peace moniker heh heh. Next time I go with CF friends! LindaC, I know. Im still exhausted. Speaking of the V&A, did you know there was a Dale Chihuly chandelier in the entrance room?

I think you will like Minneapolis once you get used to the weather extremes! I have lived in several areas of the country and think it is one of the most liveable metro areas. Some pluses include great parks and trails all over, terrific hennepin Co library system with lots of branches, many cool after school and summer activities for kids, and good public schools are available. Based on where you will be working a home in the Hopkins school district could be ideal. It includes parts of golden valley, hopkins, and minnetonka (school dist names do not correspond with town boundaries). Edina, Minnetonka, and Wayzeta could be other district options to look at. St Louis Pk seems to have more problems. Minnesota has open enrollment so you may be able to get your child into another district, if desired. Also have public charter schools that have a particular focus. And hopkins has a spanish immersion program. Lots of choices! I think the edina realty website is easy to navigate and allows you to search many ways. Note the ability to check sold homes--it's nice to see what is really selling and for how much. Lots of variety from condos, townhomes, smaller 50's ranches, bungalows, to mc mansions depending on your taste and budget. Live near downtown hopkins if you want to be able to walk to everything and have a small town feel(or 50th and france in edina for away more upscale version) or choose a nice tree studded 50's suburban area in golden valley or minnetonka or go further out(w,n,or s) for newer homes (in former cornfields). When I moved from out of state 7 yrs ago,I lucked out and found a really good realtor who is in an office near your job, let me know if you want her name. The tip to try to have alternate routes other than 394/100 is a good one. Good Luck!

The arbutus will drop spent parts at times other than autumn. As do pretty much all broad-leaved evergreen trees. That said you might want to consider Quercus hypoleucoides. Rapid growing unless a stunted specimen is purchased, never heavy and dumpy looking. Was on the independent garden center market in later years up here, maybe there was a representation of this same (or another distribution) down there also - with some of this material still being present. One of these I bought and planted here from a 5 gallon pot maybe 3 years ago is now about 10 ft. tall. Regarding the shallow roots all trees except certain desert species root mostly near the surface. Where underplanting can be a problem with particular kinds is if they produce dense mats of roots and dense, shady canopies that exclude light and rain - look next door at the redwood for an example. The redwood is also an example of how conifers generally are not suited for underplanting, at least until big and old enough for some specifically adapted kinds to be able to survive. Old as in high branching, like in a forest grove of adequate vintage.

Enjoyed the photos!

We were in Red Wing yesterday as well, unfortunately at Mayo Urgent Care. (I tore my biceps tendon unloading my mare at the vet on Thursday. Then we passed a car UPSIDE DOWN at an intersection - with Red Wing gendarmes out in force directing traffic around the wreck. Yikes.)

Yesterday was a lovely day - glad you got the spring weather for your visit, even if everything is still so brown. Hope the rest of your visit goes well. The river drive is always gorgeous, MO.

Oh no, Barn, sorry about that.

DH loved the drive — he’s a Bird Nerd and we saw several bald eagles along the way.

Very emotional weekend with DD’s ”retirement” from gymnastics. It’s hard to explain the end of 15 years of a sport like that, with year-round daily practice and no opportunity to really do a beam or uneven bars routine ever again. But her team went out on a high note and they are the nicest young ladies and great friends. DH and I happened to run into parents from an opposing team in our hotel, who had met our seniors in the hotel across the street. They said they were so impressed with them, such nice girls, etc. When I mentioned it to DD, she said, oh yeah, we saw their shirts so I went over and congratulated them. Insert Proud Mom Face here.

Oh, Sue, totally get that - and those memories will be golden. My 37 year old daughter recently sent me a video of little girls falling off horses and the strengths the narrator explained her sport had given her, which was actually pretty gratifying.

It was actually DD's show horse, now 33, who dragged me off tne trailer, lol. I warned DH she was going to come flying off but hadn't, in fact, really prepared for it, so my bad. I haven't seen an ortho yet - hopefully tomorrow after another GP appt this aft. My synptoms are pretty horrifying looking but the pain isn't too bad, especially with ice. From consulting Dr. Google, I suspect they're going to suggest non-surgical treatment at my age, but my arm strength is pretty necessary to me - those ponies aren't going to muck their own stalls!

Aren't the eagles gorgeous? Wabasha has the National Eagle Center, and their site on the river is beautiful.

I've always loved Minneapolis!

I SUPPOSE the main reason is my beloved VIKINGS are there!!!! I was sad when their LEGENDARY Coach Bud Grant passed away recently.

(The Vikes & I are the same age too. I was born in Sept. 1961. That was the Vikings 1st month in the NFL!)

When you mentioned the address area SueB, I knew it was that place.....95% certain anyway!
