Instructions for spraying grass on sculptures or walls

Hello All,

I wonder if anyone here knows anything about how to grow grass (or moss?) on vertical surfaces like walls or even dead trees. I have seen that people have had success mixing soil, seed, and water together and spraying it through a hose or some such device onto stone walls, even covering whole buildings. Its a way to create a different sort of topiary, if it could be called that. Paul Cooper's book "Living Sculpture" has pictures of the results. However, I have no idea how, practically speakings, it's really done.

What would you use to apply the mixture and what would the mixture be? What would its viability be and so on?

I am working on a park project in North Philly and we are considering it as a possible treatment for some of the abandoned structures in the area. Any input would be welcome.
