Which of 2 Grouts for my new Kitchen Tiles- only 2 Pics to choose
Comments (5)Ronaka, so I should choose the lighter Antique White grout? I was told that the grout dries slightly lighter than the stick so maybe that is why the stick is lightly darker. Which grout would be your choice? Thanks for letting me know. I definitely will be sealing the grout....See MoreCeramicTile over Ceramic Tile?
Comments (3)Please post what you learn there back over here as this will be of interest to many. We have two areas in our house where there is tile over tile in place for 4+ years, and neither area has evidenced any problems. However, it was a lot of work to do correctly. (It would have been more to remove the tile, which we did try first, because it was STUCK!) In both cases, the lower tile floor was in absolutely perfect structural shape -- no cracks or hollow-sounding spots. And before going over the top, we roughened up the surface of the lower layer to assure good adhesion. Sewhappy - It sounds to me like your seller did a 'quick and dirty' remodel for sale, and probably skimped on the floor preparation since it wouldn't show. Wouldn't show prior to the sale, anyway... It might be worth a little research to see if you have any recourse....See Morewhite 12x12 ceramic tiles for kitchen floor
Comments (13)I think the first question is: do your tiles look dated? Be honest. Unfortunately tile looks don't seem to stand the test of time. We had the 12x12 tile in our kitchen demo-ed. I would say that it is VERY awful...we were moved out while that was going on. The demo-ing only took a couple of days though. In our case the tiles were extremely bonded to a concrete subfloor so I would guess it was worse than usual. OTOH, floors are too often neglected in kitchen renos. It's sad when people spend crazy money on cabinets and appliances yet leave dated floors in place. It's not good when you can *tell* that they left the old floors in place. My flooring budget (replacing the kitchen tile with hardwood and refinishing the hardwood in dining/living/hall areas) ended up being 25% of our kitchen reno budget! It was a huge hassle as we had to move everything out and we are a family of four. We had to find alternative accommodations for a week because the flooring area included our home entrance. But I would say it was a critical element to the kitchen reno and I have no regrets now that I'm on the other side. I don't imagine that grout refreshing will be simple or cheap either. $3000 sounds like a great price to me if it includes demoing the old grout. I would add to that budget the cost of moving items and staying out of the house during the demo part. I do love a white kitchen. Personally I would not choose a white floor to go with that - I agree with comments that a mid-tone would "ground" things better. I think earth coloured ceramic would look great if they were VERY good quality - some are quite vulnerable to chipping. I also love this look: If you're considering resale, do consider alternatives to tile if you do not live in a warm climate....See Morechoosing granite and cabinets with existing ceramic tile floor
Comments (10)Since you are keeping the floor tile, I would start with that first. Then choose the cabinet color you like that goes with the floor and from there you can find the right granite to go with both those. Keep in mind the floor tile may have looked peachy at the granite slab yard but in different light and around other elements it might be the more beige you thought prior. Do you have an image of the floor tile? Or the cab door? here is an image of the cab I tried to find. Here are some ideas of tile floors, cherry cabs and granite counters. The right combination can look fantastic. In time you will find the right recipe. ~boxerpups Southern Living Saul Temkin Kitchen Fisher Granite Co. Reno Lighting some granite ideas...
