When food texture is not good

I finally realised the ick of food texture.

Many people have talked about how they can’t abide different textures both on this site and to me in real life. I was not bothered by textures. Okra, well yes can be slimy not my favourite but I can tolerate it. I love jelly... what I call jelly is the packet stuff with flavouring and gelatine sometimes jellied candy sweets.

This is a UNTIL story. I didn’t know the ick of texture until I tasted this concoction that my dear daughter in law came up with.

She had to take a plate of food to the playgroup my grandsons attend for their morning break. She made jelly squares of mashed morello/sour cherries from a jar with crushed pomegranate seeds. NO sugar and set with Agar Agar. She used minimal agar agar and they didn’t quite set so they were sort of mushy, slimy but with very hard seeds ... tasteless blobs. I know this sounds harsh but I couldn’t believe them. I saw my son’s face when he tasted one, bless him, he said they were OK.

Please don’t think I’m a horrible MIL, we actually get on fine, she just gets these weird, to me, ideas of food preparation.
