Thank you all so much for your comments. I guess I need more help with the layout and I appreciate all your advice. I agree..those plants need to go! Also, I realize now that I have to many chairs in the room. We have a large family and when we are together there is no place to sit. I just bought the blue chairs(They still have the tags on as I'm not sure what I need to do to pull this room together) I would live to get rid of the green chairs. But then I loose two more places to sit. It is an L-shaped living and dining room layout. I've always had trouble with this layout. I had the sofa on the wall where the TV is for 0ver 20 years. We just bought this sofa and put it in front of the window. The living room measures 11.5 x 19.5. It's pretty long. The rug I have is an 8 x 10. I'm not even sure that size works! The picture in the dining room which I love is the same size as the hearth of the fireplace but to tall to put over the mantle. Do you think it would work? Also, I only hung one drape in the dining room as the other one needed to be hemmed for some reason it was packaged wrong when I bought them. Anyways, your advice is very much appreciated!

Your furniture arrangement looks great and you have some nice pieces so it’s a good start. Well done. Some people might say, “You need a much bigger TV console to fill up that big empty wall!” I don’t think that’s necessary since you are happy with the arrangement. So here’s some other things to try. To the right of the TV, I would get a tall etagere to draw the eye upward and fill in that corner. I would also replace that tiny floor plant on the ground with a much taller plant like a fiddle leaf fig or any tall plant to fill in that corner. Then look for 2 pieces of vertical art to place on each side of the TV. Ideally, you’ll want different levels of height around that room to balance it out and keep the eye moving. That will make it interesting and more complete looking. Hope that helps.

@Ann Marie Thanks for the suggestion! I will look there. I'm a little partial to painted art rather than photography, but I'll see what they have. @lindac92 That sounds like good advice! How would the need for a lamp change what art would go in that space? I have no idea how to think about that at all. But you're right, probably I would want a table lamp there. I know from browsing around that sometimes art just goes behind a lamp, which honestly feels weird to me, but maybe it's fine. But I'm not sure how that changes what I would want to put on the wall there. @threers Thanks for the advice! I can assure you that I will most definitely only get art I love. If I'm going to look at it every day, it had better make me happy! But I would also like it to match the rest of the room if I can possibly arrange it. :) @Patricia Colwell I actually was originally thinking of having two couches (which I think may have the result of another comment of yours in another thread), but the problem is that I can't seem to make it work with our TV placement. I definitely want a couch to face the TV, and then the only real arrangement that works is to have an L-shaped arrangement. And if I'm going to have that, well, I have always liked couches with corners, so that's how I arrived at a sectional. But I'm open to other alternatives - I just don't know of any good ones. :)

You could hang a small but colorful picture there and then add other decor items in whatever colors are in the painting around the space. Maybe a couple throw pillows on the couch, bowl of colorful fruit on the table, vase of flowers, etc…. Not sure what that grey wall outlet thing is, but I would have it match the others or paint it the wall color. Once it is all painted and back together is will look great!
