I don't know what you climate zone is, but it sounds as if is warm and humid. Please correct me if this wrong, because my suggested course of action would be different. I would cut this plant back hard to within 6 inches of the base ie. remove most of the green growth. You could try chemical treatments but without knowing what the specific pests are this would be a guess. You are coming into fall now in USA when most pests will reduce anyway. Most fuschias recover well from drastic pruning provided the climate is not too cold.

The "Australian plants don't appreciate fertiliser" story is only partially true. A lot of Australian soils are phosphorus deficient. The plants from those soils have developed special roots which make the most of the small quantity of phosphorus that they can get from their native soil. If they're given more phosphorus, their special roots cause them to take up an overdose and they die from phosphorus poisoning. Australian plants which need a special low phosphorus fertiliser, are members of the Proteaceae family (Grevilleas, Banksias, Waratahs) and Casuarinas, as well as plants from the poor, sandy soils like boronias and croweas. Rainforest plants, on the other hand, love just the kind of fertiliser you are using - though they'd prefer it to be organic, of course, as soil texture is very important to them. (There are also Australian plants which don't like a fertiliser with nitrogen in it - pea-plants and acacias- but this is the same everywhere in the world. Casuarinas don't like nitrogen, either.) As Jim says, Myrtaceae are very tolerant plants. Myrtaceae of the woody-seed type, like Eucalypts, Callistemons, and Melaleucas have the added advantage that almost all of them come from places where the soil is naturally infertile. They will probably survive your fertiliser, but would be happier without it. Over-fertilising sometimes encourages diseases and insect pests. Don't waste money on any more fertiliser for your Melaleuca. Trish

I've gotten the caterpillars using my a leaf as their damn blanket a few times, lol. But this one was not that, for sure. It was more of a sticky webbing tad here, a tad there. Ugh, wish I took a shot of it before I started smudging it off. I'm now certain it is from a small brown bug of some sort. It happened again and on one leaf and when I went to smudge that out too, I spotted another brown bug. Hab, would I be able to see a spider mite? Never experienced this so I'm not sure what to look for. Webbing plus deforming the new growth...and a small brown bug. I'd say it was more aphid-like in shape than a spider but the sticky webbing (or residue?) is weird.

Not a problem. If it were actual sprinters, they too wouldn't harm the tree and would eat anything that may. I'd just give it a thorough hose down and you should be fine. I spray all of my plants multiple times with Bayer 3 in 1 insect disease and mite control before I bring them back inside. Last year I battled spider mites all winter. With a smaller plant they're not hard to eradicate with isopropyl alcohol mixed with water, but it was a pain on a tree the size of mine. So far, with the Bayer 3 in 1, I haven't had any issues. Spder mites like young tender leaves best. You'd find them there, usually on the underside if you had them. The tree would also have deformed young leaves and they'll also be shed from the tree before maturing. It took me a while last year to figure out why there would be dehydrated looking young leaves all over the floor near my tree. Most kept telling me it was cultural and it was driving me crazy not being able to figure it out at the time.
