Have you considered stone? Concrete will be slippery in the winter more than stone,although there is no fail safe method to ice on stairs.If you go with concrete,definetely more permanent solution, get some advise from and have a pro do this project, as forming and pouring concrete steps is an art form and is something that needs to be done right. If you dont already have them, consider incorporating hand rails as well.Metal would last and is astetically nice if using a wrought iron type,albeit pricy. A not so astetic solution would be all metal stairs/railings with cleats on the treads for traction.

Here is the Ravenswood installed. You can see more on our Instagram account. It sometimes pull pink and sometimes gray, but it's a nice saturation. Not too light, not too dark. I don't love the bevel and how wide/long they are, but they are very wonderful overall. We have lots of green trees around the house to counteract the pink in the floors, so they look pretty natural in our house. The one downside of the Ravenswood is that is does seem to change color a lot based on natural and artificial lighting, so I would suggest getting some long planks of it before you buy.

I plan to remove the carpet from the stairs one night this week, so i will be able to see what i am dealing with.

For the look you want, the first chouce for me fits the bill. But…..this style home to me doesn’t say farmhouse/ rustic.
